Tabac Re-Formulated - Now Tallow Free

If the end of the world arrives, then the one shaving soap you will take to the tropical island, I guess it will be 20x Tabac :D
Depending upon your age bracket and you’ll need to work out how old you are, and roughly how long you’ll think you’ll might live depending on your health, if you only want to use only Tabac tallow for the rest of your life. You should be able to work out how many tallow pucks or sticks you’ll need.

I’m the first to admit that it’s all about choice. I get that. But, for those of you who haven’t tried the new version of Tabac, how can you justify that it’s crap? I’ve got into a slightly tense debate about tallow/non-tallow before and I’m not going to again; but why this antipathy towards vegan soaps from those that haven’t even tried them? Fair enough, if you’ve had experience of other reformulations, however.

Don’t get me wrong, for me tallow or otherwise is a non-issue (despite the foregoing) and I have a mixture of both. As it happens my new replacement puck of Tabac has tallow. But MdC, LPL, SMN, Wickham’s et al are, imo, all great soaps; with no tallow anywhere near them.

It sounds to me, and I write this with respect, before I get subjected to varying heights of dudgeon; that it’s purism for the sake of it.

I'm not a tallow evangelist, lots of great soaps are made with and without them.

However for the new formulation of Tabac, it's clear that the lather and scent is different, whether it is better or worse is down to the individual but it is definitely different and that is down to it's performance and the scent.

I'm yet to buy any of the old stocks, I have a cm and a bit of a shaving stick left, but I'm undecided whether I'd replenish my stocks, I like the current formulation of Tabac but it's not my favourite soap. Of the shaving sticks Palmolive was one of my favourites, a real shame it has been discontinued entirely.

I must admit to relieving a local chemist of 8 sticks of Palmolive at 50p a stick. Just because of its pending extinction.

I’m all stocked up with these FANTASTIC European Palmolive sticks and the tub showing above on the right as well.

Life goes forward ...

I have maybe half a puck left of Tabac from the generation before the facelift (three? four? years ago). I'm not going to buy another in. Likely, I'll get one of the non-tallow to replace that. Or, bag any of the hundreds of thousands that will still be available for years to come and the hundreds that will still come through as vintage in decades to come. Just look how frequently box fresh Old Spice still comes out of the woodwork!

Yes. I have, however the European version performs far better than the Aussie Palmolive sticks which are no longer available anymore.

There were three versions down under: German, Fijian & finally Aussie, according to this old thread I remembered:

I had a case of the old original German Palmolive sticks and sold all but one. It is stronger scented than the current German one and the ingredient list is a bit different, but I could tell no difference in shave quality with the current Euro one.

finally got around to using the tabac shaving soap in the bowl........all i can say is meh! lol

got a weak scent and just not good if im being honest,
i remember someone saying that the soap performs better then the shaving cream but honestly this felt exactly the same to me

ive still to try out the tabac shaving stick

i think the more soaps i use the more i appreciate arko, the slickness, the scent (i like it, dont hate! lol)
and also the price, i mean to me its way ahead of tabac in every department.....of course YMMV

p.s i have the tabac with tallow

think i was most disappointed with the scent as i heard loads of youtubers rave on about it and i know i dont have the most sensitive nose but that was poor, really poor to me anyways YMMV

The tallow Tabac lather is superb, unless you underloaded it. There's supposed to be no difference between the stick and puck, but the puck is supposed to be a bit harder. Load it a little more the next time around though.

Have you used the Arko puck? I think it's different to the stick, but may the Mount Arko provide you with all the wisdom you seek, for the Arko Man, with his beady eyes and his bountiful face of lather has answers to all of our questions.
