New YaQi 50mm

That is a great shame!

V3 fixed all the issues of that inherent design problem by doing the obvious: two plates to hold a rigid blade at the correct angle and stick a post behind it. The handle is no longer too close to the front guard and that slight bit of thread either side of the post no longer the most prone point of failure of the whole thing.
Agreed, I am going to cancel my order for one.

just to clarify is this the yaqi raster aka vector clone i've read about on the shaving forums?

the one on the link is that v3 or am i just plain confused? lol

That's it Saj

I've got a Raster (V1/V2??)
There's nothing wrong with the shave itself, it shaves really well, just that the coating on the blade mounts is a bloody mess that makes it look shoddily made - which it is . . .

Had a lovely Shave with my Raster V2 with a Schick Proline on board. Provide one does not rush it delivers a super close all round finish without any fuss or post Shave problems. IMHO it delivers a Shave as as good as a Razor costing 4/5 times as much , and outwardly looks fine.
Shame that it is not readily available, but that is the case with so many new AC/SE Razors.

I've noticed that this is again for sale on AliExpress ...

Is the current offering more of the V2 or is it a revised V3? I heard they'd dropped the idea of a circular post (akin to the General, I think) and returned to the flat post. I'm not sure what improvement might have been made. If any.

I bought the head and while it is an improvement on the V1 I have....I haven't a clue if it is the V2 or V3. Away back in the mists of time I ordered a V3 from Australia. It's on its way now.....and if I recall correctly....the abandoned version should be with it.

I guess we'll see then @culcreuch ... you have a V1 and a V2? V3? with a bonafide V3 coming and the abandoned design. If your confirmed V3 is exactly the same as the V2? V3? that you have, that will answer that. Or maybe we'll all be just a little more confused.

I have the V1 and the V2 ... both take a blade which sits straight on both heads. Since the V3 is now reputed to be the same design as the V2, I'm wondering what (if any) improvements they made.

Matte head arrived a couple of days ago. Must have come by air rather than by sea - a little over a week since ordering.

So far I've had a couple of shaves using a Schick Proline. Or rather 1.5: it's so bad I couldn't even finish the second try tonight. It feels rough, a little tuggy, and it doesn't cut very close. I find I have to buff repeatedly to clear a spot.

Halfway through I gave up and picked up my Merkur 985 (the open comb travel razor). It was whole a different league of smoothness and efficiency. No repeated buffing: just long smooth strokes.

Might have a go at grinding down the front lip of the baseplate to expose more of the blade. Out of the box, it's the kind of razor that makes you want to grow a beard.

Proof that visiting pages of the forum, other than Shave of the Day are injurious to one's wealth. Not that I've found anything at all wrong with my Yaki Raster v2 but I now have a v3 on the way from Australia.

As others have said, the Raster is a great razor, and I have found it to be exceptionally smooth and a far better shaver than "the original" which I sold, as I found it as rough as a badger's rough bits.

I have the V1 and the V2 ... I'll assume you've now got the V3? From China? Either way, if the comb/guard is getting in the way, try setting the angle much more cap-focussed with the handle sticking out/up more. I found both V1 and V2 were dramatically improved by setting the angle from the cap rather than the comb. The angle is tight but it can be found. Given the severely narrow profile, it's akin to issues shaving with a 3/8 straight razor - easier get the angle bob-on with a 6/8, for example.

Not sure which version I've got. Bought from Aliexpress.

I'm kind of puzzled because most people like the shaves they get from this little razor.

Will try again with a fresh blade.
