TKMax

Hi,
Did you find any green proraso cream in the tkmax in the city centre? I checked the Newtownabbey one and they had the blue/white there too.
Just the two pictured, that was in Boucher Road. Haven't been into the city centre one for a while.

I got these two in TK Maxx Altrincham today - they only had one other tube of the green in stock, plus a couple of bottles of the red lid pre-shave in glass jars. I have the menthol "pre barba" already, but not sure what the red top signifies.

Anyhoo, worth a punt for only £2.99 each - gives me something else to play around with :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

TJ Maxx has a different name in Europe and Australia, and there’s a simple reason why

  • TJ Maxx is one of America’s most iconic retailers, with 1,231 stores across the country. TK Maxx, its sister store, has a similar reputation in the UK, though it has far fewer stores.
  • When TJ Maxx opened in the UK in 1994, it changed its name to avoid being confused with the UK-based discount-department-store chain TJ Hughes. That retailer currently has 24 locations.
  • Primark, a low-cost apparel store, also has a different name in the country where it originated.

TJ Maxx is one of America’s most iconic retailers. It has 1,231 stores across the country and is a brand that most people either know of, have seen, or have shopped at before.
TK Maxx has a similar standing in the UK, where it has 367 stores.
What is less known, however, is that these seemingly identical stores, with matching logos, fonts, and even colour schemes, are connected and yet have different names.

The mystery behind TK Maxx

TJ Maxx, the off-price store concept, was founded in the US in 1977, when its first two stores opened in Auburn and Worcester, Massachusetts.
In almost two decades, its parent company, now TJX Companies, expanded across the United States and Canada, opening new stores and acquiring chains under the company umbrella.
In 1994, it crossed the Atlantic and set up in the UK and Ireland, where there was – and still is – a discount-department-store chain called TJ Hughes. That retailer currently has 24 locations.
TJ Hughes has been around since 1912 and was an established department store offering “premium brands at discounted prices” – an offering not too dissimilar from TJ Maxx. To avoid confusion, the US store decided to change its name to TK Maxx.
Today, there are 590 TK Maxx stores across Europe and Australia, and they are all fully owned by TJX Companies.
It isn’t just TJ Maxx that’s had to change its name to avoid confusion. Primark, a European-headquartered, low-cost store, had a similar problem in the 1970s. The store was originally called Penneys when it was founded in Dublin, Ireland, but was forced to change its name to Primark when it moved to the UK because JCPenney, the US department store, was already registered there.

In Canada they trade under the names Winners, HomeSense and Marshalls. From a male perspective they are a hit and miss proposition for clothing and grooming supplies compared with the selections for women.
We have Marshalls and HomeSense around here, along with TJ Maxx, and Winners is in California.

Holy crap.

A GLOBAL OFF-PRICE RETAILER

The TJX Companies, Inc., the leading off-price apparel and home fashions retailer in the U.S. and worldwide, was ranked 97 in the 2021 Fortune 500 company listings. At the end of 2020, the Company had more than 4,500 stores in nine countries, four e-commerce sites, and approximately 320,000 Associates. We operate T.J. Maxx and Marshalls (combined, Marmaxx), HomeGoods, Sierra, and Homesense, as well as tjmaxx.com, marshalls.com, homegoods.com, and sierra.com, in the U.S.; Winners, HomeSense, and Marshalls (combined, TJX Canada) in Canada; and T.K. Maxx in the U.K., Ireland, Germany, Poland, Austria, the Netherlands, and Australia, as well as Homesense in the U.K. and Ireland, and tkmaxx.com in the U.K. (combined, TJX International).

I have picked up some very good deals from their stores in Canada and England, but I’ve had to persevere: for example, Icebreaker merino wool hiking socks, Ralph Lauren button down and Polo shirts in England and Italian cashmere sweaters/jumpers and Italian lambs wool sweaters/jumpers in Canada. If I’m lucky I’ll find a tube or two of Proraso shaving cream occasionally and perhaps an Omega boar shaving brush. I’ve also picked up everyday-use Riedel red and white wine glasses. All my purchases were at a good discount to full retail and there’s nothing wrong with the goods.; no seconds or slightly imperfects.

There was also a discounter called TJ Morris, now known as Home Bargains...
