Have a look at A P Shave company or even the body shop I’m sure they do a cheap little synthetic brush that you can pick up on the high street
from what i read online that erasmic brush is something like 24mm knot so i think after using that id probably like something bigger, so i thought id take a punt with this 30mm know synthetic brush

Yes that looks ideal mate bigger knot especially for head shaving with more ground to cover
yea thats what i thought

whats a good price for say one of these synthetic brush with 30mm knots, would you say? you know just to give me an idea...

thats interesting never heard of anyone having a reaction to badger hair shaving brushes, what sort of reaction? if you dont mind me asking mate

Don’t mind at all. Just got a slight reddening and my face felt a bit hot, as if I was blushing. I was using a soap I’d used loads before (Phoenix and Beau Spitfire) with no problems, and it happened again a couple of weeks later with the same brush, this time with a TOBS Sandalwood soap, which I’d also used plenty of times before with no issues. It might have been an issue with that particular brush, like it not having been sterilised properly perhaps, but soon after that I started to find out about the welfare issues and decided to stick with synths, and I’ve not had reason to regret that choice.

no way seriously? i read on the back of the erasmic brush it actually said synthetic fibres, so i thought it was a safe buy tbh

in regards to the wilkinson sword it didnt say anything about being boar hair bristle it just said finest bristles or something like that off the top of my head, suirely they should make it clear for the consumer, well thats what i wouldve thought they wouldve done...

looks like ill have to PIF the erasmic and wilkinson sword brushes lol
Can you photograph the actual brush?

I have to say, I'm stumped on this one. I have had two Erasmic brushes in my time, both were boar. That picture is almost certainly of boar hair, but we've not seen your actual brush. It might well be synthetic. I'm sure a quick look will tell us.

Indeed, the WIlkinson Sword will be. Again, I've had one. I've seen the latest crop in person in the supermarket. The practice of using boar hair goes back certainly more than a century and pre-dates modern concern with such things, whether religious or lifestyle preference.

Stick that one in your mind, though ... generally, "bristle" = boar hair.

To be frank, this is the purpose of the halal or kosher or vegan stamp - to let folks know such items are good to use. There's no precident for general products to carry a NOT halal, kosher or vegan stamp. This is where your laws and principles come in, and at least buying from known good permissable sellers. Where that's not possible, err on the side of caution. Foam from a can, brushless cream or use a synthetic fibre brush.

With that in mind, I'd love to get to the bottom of this Erasmic question ... and hopefully let you know whether you can use it. Please put up a photograph of the actual brush. I have pored over loads of pictures of the brush on the internet and I can see a difference in the packaging between older and newer brushes, but the Savers link most definitely shows a bristle (boar) brush yet you say it says synthetic on the back of the packet you bought - I wager their website picture is out of date.

Let's see the actual brush ...

Likewise, I reacted to badger hair ...

Same, red face, blotchy, even one or two fierce lumps at times. Absolutely no such thing has happened with synthetic fibre (or boar ;)). I switched off badger and went synthetic for at least a year. I used the badger again and got that red blotchiness. Never again.

I bet it’s one of these ones?

That does look like synthetic. Not very good synthetic, mind. If it was bristle, I'd expect to see more dark hairs in there and some unruliness, not to mention a good load of shed hairs cluttering up the package.

Indeed! The front of the pack does not say "Pure Bristle" (as per the link on the Savers website) so we should now assume that yes ... Erasmic have switched to synthetic. Live and learn.

This bodes well for you @saj1985 ... or not, as it doesn't look that great.

yea thats what i thought

Not sure to be honest mate think some of the PAA are between £20-£30 yaqi are quite a bit cheaper, ap shave are quite reasonably priced too, Simpson do some synthetics but can be quite a bit more depending which model you go with, I have never had something as big as 30 mm as I face lather and find my 28mm chubby plenty big enough but head shaves are different maybe £30 range perhaps a bit more if that’s any help

Wilkinson confirmed on Amazon it's boar  Seriously, choose your favourite colour(s), go to this page on Aliexpress and for a fiver a pop, splurge  https://yaqibrush.aliexpress.com/st...aa84431RbWTcK&origin=n&SortType=price_asc&g=y

I've a couple of "defect" brushes fromYaqi - my 24mm Sagrada Familia is perfect, the 24mm Mysterious Space is obviously a 26mm in a 24mm handle!
But both are beyond reproach - and I'm now looking at which versions are on sale 'cos I "need" one to go with my rose soaps

A Yaqi Dandelion does wonders with hard soaps. I can also highly recommend the whiskey barrel from The Gentleman's Groom Room up in Dundee. An absolute boss little brush
I'll let you in on a secret, Chris. I am currently planning for my "release" later in the year, and when I go nationwide again the Groom Room will be a pilgrimage en-route to my erstwhile regular stays in Aberdeen
