Due to a move to a new role at work, I do have to learn new tech stack for creating website which I'm only roughly familiar with - and here I thought why not join it with a hobby and make it into a small (or maybe a bit bigger) project.

Idea is to create a website that would include some information on the blades, such as manufacturers, production dates (rough dates in some cases), what company they're from, whether they're owned/took over by some other company, blades that are currently in production etc etc. Potentially also include voting system to see how shaving community rates them (sharpness, smoothness, length of blade's life) in future iterations.

It will most likely be a good few month project depending on time available, but the idea is there....

So now a question to you guys - is there anything as such similar out there, or do you have any sites that include information about various blades, types, when they were manufactured etc.

This is only in initial phase so no rush, just thought I'd start collecting information early! :)

For current blades, I'd go to TryABlade or RazorBladesClub for breadth. That's the easy bit and scraping off their websites might not be what you were aiming for. Older blades I'm less sure where to find

Yep that’s what I thought - go for sites that offer sample blades as individuals and start from there. Didn’t hear of TryABlade so thank you for this one!

A good idea and well done. I think it will be a fairly exhaustive project, but as mentioned above there are a couple of good DE blade spreadsheets on here that are a great starting point.

And just realised that I posted that in wrong section *facepalm* if any of the mods could move it to blades part it’d be much appreciated

Might be worth following @pjgh - you can see in his thread "Six Weeks in SuperMax" just how much work will be involved in listing a single manufacturer's (quasi-)current offering!

Brilliant idea, though, and I'd be happy to offer what help I can!
I definitely will reach out to Paul - he definitely has a lot of knowledge there!
It definitely will be an interesting long term project - might be shooting but high there but if it turned out to be something like trythatsoap but for blades it would be quite cool!

thank you, I’ll keep that in mind!
