Need suggestions for a new razor

So, tragically, I dropped my Edwin Jagger DE89 and the handle broke where it screws on to the plate. I therefore need a new razor but have little idea where to start - I don't have any preferences such as slant or adjustable which could help me refine what I'm asking for. I'm setting a budget of £100. I remember a while back looking at the Rockwell 6S out of curiousity, however I also remember people having issues with the quality control (I think?), and I have no idea how it stacks up against other offerings. I just need a bit of steering in the right direction. Thanks a lot!

Can you share some pictures of your broken razor? It may be repairable with a single part from Edwin Jagger.

There's so many new razors to choose from that it's difficult to recommend as we all have our individual tastes. Of you definitely want a DE razor, and not an SE razor, I'd be inclined to recommend the Rockwell 6S or Merkur Progress.

I believe the build quality issues were to do with the 6C, not the 6S. Happy to be corrected though and I think the 6Cs are now fine. In fact, £100 could get you a 6C and a Progress!

Like I said I'm not sure on preferences, is there a reason why you'd recommend a single edged razor over a DE? Here's a picture of the DE89:

I presume the end of the top cap broke off in the handle? If not then you could just get this

The Rockwell 6S could be a good razor for you if you do look for a replacement.

If the DE89 worked for you then I would say repair or replace prior to purchasing another razor. The DE89 / R89 is a terrific shaver and its efficiency increases in direct proportion to technique and experience. Worth keeping in rotation.

Edit: just seen the picture. Easy repair. Replacement top caps are available from both Muhle and EJ and maybe Connaughts.

My recommendation would be to get a new top cap and a Razorock SLOC which is the Yaqi DOC, which is a scary looking beast to begin with but actually on the mild side of things and excellent daily shaver.

My thinking is that I'd be up for change and if a 6C is an upgrade over the DE89, I'd be happy to pay £40 odd.

My first thought was to replace the head. However, looking at the picture, it seems part of the head is still in the handle which would need to be removed. Not sure how easy that is.

As to replacement razors, I'd suggest sticking to a similar one with 89 head or maybe a murker 34G, or even the MÜHLE R89 twist. Then again, if you want to upgrade to something entirely new, that's a different thing.

Yes part of it is stuck inside the handle. And to be honest I'm after an upgrade, because I felt this would be an appropriate time :)

Great razors, and they're brass instead of zamak.

Terrible razors! Should be melted down and turned in to something much more useful like a door knocker.

Just my opinion though, of course ;)

A Karve or a Razorock Game Changer 84. Out of the two the Karve would be my personal choice.

Okay I sold each of mine recently but brilliant razors all the same. Like an 89 on steroids and a natural step up the chain.
