S.O.T.D Saturday 14th October - Friday 20th October 2017

Crikey what a great shave. Both razors with fresh Nacets, new Mamba for the beard, new Ikon SBS for the head shave. For the Mamba I used a lighter than stock titanium Halo handle which improves balance. Extremely mild but efficient enough with one day's growth. Talk about an easy shave. The SBS using the Mamba's handle is heavy (125g) and takes some adjustment, as does finding the angle, but it's a great shaver. With a little practice this will be a one pass BBS for my head shave.

Sotd - travel shaving - 8 - 15/10 -

Razor - Ikon 101 head on ES Braveheart handle
blade - Gillette Nacet - used four times
soap - Nivea Crema de Afeitar Protectora - Spanish
brush - Satin Tip Finest synth
post - rose water toner
a/s - Nivea Protege & Cuida - 2 in 1 - Spanish
balm - Nivea Cool Gel Hydrante Sensitive - Spanish.

Result - great -

I'm in the habit - if going to Spain - just to pack a razor, some blades and a brush. There is so much good software to be had easily and cheaply in any city or town of any size. An excuse to buy new stuff - what's not to like? During my recent non-artisan shaving experiment I had been mightily impressed with Nivea products - I have no idea what took me so long to find this out. I suspect I may have been a bit sniffy about them because you don't get much more mainstream and mass market than Nivea - how wrong was I? So off to ECI department store and lo! - the entire range was discounted. It was meant to be. The products above cost a sum total of 14 euros. I had been intrigued by others using the two phase after shave and had been looking forward to trying it - I went for the alcohol based version - better in the heat for me. I'd always wondered whether the split between the blue and clear layers was a label or the liquid itself - it's the latter. The performance was excellent in my experience. In my normal climate I wouldn't have needed a balm on top - very good indeed. It'll stay close at hand for a while I think. The Satin Tip does the job just fine but I'm never going to be excited about using it - great handle in fairness. Ditto the 101 head - it's neither one thing nor the other, but it works. I seem to use it a lot when I'm away - I'm not going to shed any tears if it gets lost and also it's probably the 'safest' razor I own. You'd really have to try hard to hurt yourself with it. You don't want to cut yourself up a treat just before going out for dinner. So - job done. I like the simplicity of using travel kit - there are no choices to be made for each shave, you just get on with what you have in front of you. A nice change. Enjoy your shaves one and all - yours - I.

Evening Gentlemen,
Finally got around to trying the first of the b+m soap samples, this one being the reserve cool.
It is definitely a croap erring more towards the soap, so a bit tricky digging out a blob from such a small pot, more so if you have shovels for hands.
Anyways, it lathered up fairly easy, I did find it not to be as thirsty as they imply though.
Good scent to it which did last a few hours, personally I didn't find it to leave my face feeling either soft or moisturised. So it was ok, but not anything special to write home about.
I'm thinking as I try each I will pass them over to Paul (blademonkey) for his thoughts if of course he would like them.

Woke up this morning feeling rough. Swollen glands, sore throat and blocked nose. Full on man flu. Symptoms have worsened throughout the day so I needed a pick me up.
Hot bath with Wright's Coal Tar Soap followed by a smooth two pass, (with and against) shave and I feel nearly human again.

Soap: Wholly Kaw Monaco Royale
Razor: Merkur 34C
Blade: Timor (2)
Brush: Seillean GR24 Badger
A/S: Fine Clean Vetiver
Balm: Myrsol Emulsion

So, is the hype for Wholly Kaw soaps worth it? In my opinion, yes. The scent is amazing on this soap, the cushion and glide are great. OK, it's not the slickest soap I've ever used but the post shave feel is really out of this world. My face has never felt this soft, hydrated and moisturised for hours after shaving. I was a bit curious to see what the donkey milk in this soap would add to the shave, but now I know.
