RE: Storing Shave stick
Same. It's just a piece of soap to me, and I'd treat it no different to how I'd treat a bar of hand soap. When growing up I used to have a shaving mug which had a place for soap cakes at the top, so they'd get treated pretty badly and would be left wet to dry off in the sun on the windowsill, these days I respect soaps a bit more and make sure they're not left sopping wet... I don't know if that's any better or worse!

RE: Storing Shave stick
i squash my sticks (palmolive or arko) into a dedicated ramekin, then whisk my brush straight on it - its clean, practical & efficient Smile

What sort of plastic container is that? My dad used to have some sort of soap press, he'd use a cheese grater to turn the soap into dust/swarf, dump that onto a tea towel over a bowl of steamy water. The soap would turn to mush and then use the press to make cakes. These would then get used in the shaving mugs...

I can't find anything like a soap press on the bay or anywhere.

Re: Storing Shave stick
Soap press sounds interesting. I have grated but it's a bit tedious if doing the whole stick in one go. I have pressed Palmolive into a ramekin much more easily.

I let my soaps air dry. I try to get those shiny or Bakelite canisters to store them all in

RE: Storing Shave stick
Sticking 'em in the freezer for a bit seemed to make grating more straightforward. I've only done that once, mind, creating a La Toja-Palmolive hybrid from the dregs of the two. I haven't actually bothered to use it yet...

Buy a Boots soap stick and use the holder to cover the Palmolive. The Boots stick itself is a reasonable performer in its own right; I ended up using it as hand/bath soap though. Next, go for La Toja and Lea - before using their holders when you acquire Valobra and Speick. Don't bother at all with Arko!

I've got a few of them. I also grate my sticks into pottery ramakins, again 3 for a quid at Poundland.

RE: Storing Shave stick
I let my Palmolive and Erasmic sticks sit on the dresser until they next take my fancy. They collect a bit of dust, but a quick waft under the hot tap before rubbing on the cheeks soon sorts that out.

RE: Storing Shave stick
Those vintage leather-cased travel shaving kits usually have a couple of soap stick holders. Just give them a good clean and you're good to go. They're usually really good quality too and so much more refined than sticking your kit in a wash bag!

I got mine the bay for less than a fiver.

That looks good, I used to grate mine onto a chopping board then tip into a pot, but ended up getting it everywhere. I'm not the tidiest of chaps....

RE: Storing Shave stick
Don't the Boots sticks come in a plastic container that other sticks will fit? I think they are are offer at the moment too.

Alternatively, I use the red plastic holder on an erasmic stick, press it onto my Arko, and let it air dry.

Must get round to trying the grate and press method too.

Regards,

White
