After just one shave my thoughts are that this blade is ok. Not super-sharp but pretty smooth. I'm thinking a bit like modern German Wilkinson blades for smoothness and sharpness, so fairly average. Need to use it a few more times in a few more razors to be sure though.

The Vie Long Zurito (13061) is a horse hair brush made in Spain. I bought this brush to compare it to other brushes that I have in my rotation. I ordered from Phil at Bullgoose and he sent it in quickly. The price at the time of sale was 32 U.S.D.

The tale of the tape for this brush is as follows:

Overall Height: 105 mm
Loft Size: 57 mm
Knot Size: 23 mm
Maximum Width of Brush Hairs: 56mm

The break in method was established using a generic soap and lathering my forearms once daily for about 5 days to get the brush to bloom before testing began.

The first set of testing involved face lathering using Palmolive stick with a single application across each side of the face and the neck. The same amount of soap was applied for each test and only at the beginning of each test. No additional soap was added and the face was wiped clean and water applied after each pass. The issues for face lathering concern water retention used to generate lather and how the brush builds up lather on the face.

Water retention: Does this brush hold water sufficiently enough? Yes.

Lather: Does this brush build lather well? Yes.

This brush was able to generate 3 face passes and a left over head shave (thin for last face pass and head shave). I would as a normal practice use additional soap on the head, but this was a test to see how much lather could be produced.

When I switched to C.O. Bigelow in the bowl I found that this brush was quick and efficient in making lather. The same with Fitness soap.

The issues for bowl lathering concerns the loading of soaps and creams, building and applying lather, and the application of the lather to the skin.

Loading: Does this brush pick up soaps and creams easily? Yes.

Lather: Does this brush build and apply lather well? Yes. This brush in bowl lathering was able to generate three face passes and a full head pass with a nickel sized dab of C.O. Bigelow.

Application: Does this brush it allow for a soft/smooth/effective application of lather to the skin. Yes. The handle is easy to hold and the hairs allow an effective application of lather to the skin.

Does the brush have a quality feel? Yes, this brush has good backbone (not floppy) and is only mildly scritchy. This brush as far as feel is close to a low end best badger but not near silvertip. It is softer than the boar brushes that I have used in the past.

Appearance: Is the look of the brush attractive? Yes it is very good looking. See for yourself.

In conclusion, the Vie Long is an excellent brush for the price. In my view it is as good of a face lathering brush as the Simpson Colonel X2L in best badger but not as good in terms of bowl lathering as the Simpson Colonel X2L. This is not the best performing brush in my stable due to the availability of Muhle Synthetics, H.I.S. Shaving, and a Silvertip Badger, all of which exceed this in performance. However, those brushes set the bar very high. This brush for many users this brush would shine as a primary brush. It performs well for both face and bowl lathering. I would recommend this brush to any user who wants a solid performing horse in their stable.

I bought a sideboard off eBay which was second-hand but in very good condition according to the description and photos. I paid nearly £400 including £65 carriage. When it turned up yesterday it had two scratches and a one-inch gouge out of one of the edges. It was almost certainly damage that the courier had caused. Now I contacted the seller, a shop, with pictures of the damage and requested a refund of £50 towards repair. Was I right to do this? Am I being unreasonable or too reasonable? I want to keep the sideboard but I am annoyed at the damage which is quite conspicuous. What would all you experienced eBayers suggest I do. The seller has been quite communicative but I haven't heard anything since this morning when I sent the pics.

Good evening gents, I'm new to the forum and relatively new to DE shaving. I had a cheap plastic DE razor from Boots a few years ago that I got on really well with, so after a small break I've been looking at investing in another (less plastic-ky) razor.

After loads of research, I've decided upon a Gillette Slim Adjustable to be my first "proper" razor. They seem quite a popular choice, and I like the look of them. Now I just need to try and find one in good, usable condition..

Where would people recommend looking? I've been scanning eBay, but it's difficult to know the condition of items from tiny pictures, and I'm very keen not to get stuck with a "dog" and put myself off DE razors for life.

If anybody knows of someone trustworthy who might have a suitable razor for sale, that would be very much appreciated!

So i decided to phone TSB myself and they do everything for you and there is no charge this was about 12 weeks ago and lo and behold a nice cheque came through the door for 18 grand a couple of days ago.
So if you are thinking about claiming go straight to your bank and keep away from these other companies.

Here is something I have wanted to produce for a long time. A full strength gentleman's evening cologne. It's not strictly a shaving product, but it will appeal to a lot of gents out there to wear on a night out.

It is called Tuxedo, and the scent structure is:-

Top Notes: Amber, fresh pears and vanilla.
Middle Notes: Sunflowers and African starfruits.
Base Notes: Mulberry's and Dewberry's.

It will retail on ebay eventually for around £25, and be cheaper on here for members.

Here is the raffle: If anyone is interested in trying this, I will take requests and pick three names out of the hat, in about a week, when it's finally ready to go, and three people will get the first three bottles free. All you have to do then, is write a short review on here, about what you thought of the product.

So, if you're up for a free cologne and a bit of fun let me know.

Martin.

So guys, if you're out on a date and you're not wearing Tuxedo, you're just not dressed properly!

What's peoples experience with the turkish ARKO shave stick?
I bought one as I have used a palmolive stick before, and found that the lather was incredible, by far the best I have tried, and I used a big boar hair brush that worked great. Given my experience I am wondering why folks use an expensive cream like Trumpers and an expensive brush like a Silvertip?

I've read several, but so long ago that I retain only an outline of the plots. I've decided to reread a few and add some more to my list. I'm reading Great Expectations right now. And what a great book it is. My previous two were Bleak House and Hard Times.

So would anyone care to add some suggestions about Dickens - do you have a favourite, or two?

Hi everyone on theshavingroom.co.uk

Am new here But not at shaving.. And I really need some help every time I shave I keep getting red marks after shaving? And my skin drys up?
I use a electric razor as do I cant use a normal one as do I know I will end up cutting myself v_v And I hate hair on my face So I must shave everyday.

Here is how I normal shave

1, Bath
2,After bath I put on shaving Gel (Nivea for men,Sensitive)
3, After that I get my razor (Philips AT890 - Shaver), When I shave I do it over a sink of water not in the bath or shower, So I rise my razor over warm water
4, I then start shaving, I do stop and rise and then I continue In till all hair is gone (Or try to at least)
5, Wash off with warm water
6, Apply post shave balm (Nivea for men, Sensitive)
Now the problem I have is after shaving I end up with this

It dose not hurt but I really hate it. When I see other men shave they never get this? So why do I? And my skin drys up even when using Shave Balm I have very Sensitive skin!?
Wording can I put E45 on after shaving then post shave balm by Nivea?
I hope someone can help me And how I can have a better shave?
Thanks
-Mr.

If you have any questions do ask and I will get back to you ASAP!

I have been after one of these forever!

Got this from a auction in the USA (not eBay)

It's a big ole Joseph Rogers, a full inch at the toe and tapering down to a little over 7/8 at the heel. Almost zero visible hone wear. Chopper!!
The blade is stamped Made for D P Ives & Co, 4-5 Milk Street, Boston.
Manufactured around the early/mid 1800's.

It needs a bit of work done on it but nothing that won't polish out, I believe the scales are horn and could do with replacing but I am going to try and save them

First things first...I am going to hone it and have a shave
