From memory, rough but exhilarating. There's a lot of dialling in to be done on the Wilko - blade presentation, gap, etc. The Empire was also a little ungainly with quite a bit of slop in the handle. Fun. Probably not a daily mower though. The later model I showed in the second picture was much nicer and very much akin to a valet VC2 onwards.
Of all that ilk of wacky-razors (see what I did there?) like the Wilkos, Valets and all manner of French/German whisker-whackers is a pre-Valet '9 O'Clock' which gives a lovely shave:
... think of it as a proto-VC1. Which puts me in mind to pick up a nice coffin case VC1 again.
