I've tried searching and reading the FAQ for how you put a viewtopic link in a post but cant seem to find it . Is this what the BB code is for?

There must be an elegant way to do it, but I just open up the relevant topic in a new tab, copy the URL and paste it into the message.

P.s by the little wee square at the top right of the post you want to direct the link to you mean the one top left ? looks like a small page of paper?

Yeah that's the one, I forgot depending on how you view the board it can be at the top right or left.
