I use it with and without the basket. You don't see massive results unless you have a handle or head full of soap but the water gets murky showing that it has taken surface dirt off. You still have to polish your razors when you have finished but all surface dirt will have been removed. Try it on jewellery and you can see the difference after a clean, the stones really sparkle.
