The Art of Shaving Sandalwood After Shave Balm

Received this for Xmas from my brother in-law. Not cheap, £30  . Is it any good? When I'm bought a present I feel really guilty if I don't like it, so, tried this with a degree of trepidation. The results were excellent, especially shaving and going out in this bitterly cold weather. My face feels soft and protected. It is easily absorbed upon application. My wife could smell the fragrance for quite a while afterwards, great if you are a sandalwood fan. Would I spend that amount of cash on myself when there are other products? I doubt it, but I have tried a lot of ASB's and this is the best.... so far!

Regards

I love this stuff it's a superb product but probably not for everyday. You don't need much which is just as well, I'm waiting for a replacement, but I agree the price is a bit silly especially for a balm.

It is excellent. He also got me 2 AOS shaving oils, a straight, hone, strop, and pastes
Thinking about flogging the oils though!   Not my cup of tea, brilliant for post-shave strangely enough.

Sounds like good stuff and a very nice brother. I am trying a few balms just now, today I used Proraso which lease my skin slightly drier than some other soaps so usually like a good balm for after this soap.

Another one for the list then methinks.

My review and impressions:

1. Packaging / size / appearance: Dispenser glass bottle, 100 ml/3.40 fl.oz., comes in cardboard/paper box.

2. Price / availability: Relatively expensive, as others have also mentioned.

3. Scent: Very good, matches the corresponding Art of Shaving shaving soap/cream excellently.

4. Razor burn / Cooling action: I particularly found nothing extraordinary here, does the job but this is not the product I would immediately turn to should I get serious razor burn.

5. Moisturizing properties: Very good, balm is pretty thick, to me personally feels slightly more oily than all the other balms I have. In addition, it doesn't leave my skin as silky as other products do.

6. Quality / overall: Good overall but price is very high. Will most likely not be replaced in my rotation once this bottle runs out.

Summary - N_Architect's verdict:

1. Packaging / size / appearance: 4/5
2. Price / availability: 2/5
3. Scent: 4/5
4. Razor burn / Cooling action:: 3/5
5. Moisturizing properties: 4/5
6. Quality / overall: 4/5 - Recommended, provided you can easily spend such an amount on a balm.

I bought this off the bay for £12 and would never pay full price.

It is excellent in winter as a moisturiser and soothes the skin really well. But in terms of fighting razor burn, I prefer Speick.

Smells better, I feel, than the cream. The shaving cream is nice but just sandalwood/almost like your in a DIY shop. But the balm smells fantastic, it has other oils in it which make it more fruity/sweet. Really love the scent.

Packaging is great, very sturdy glass bottle, looks cool (maybe this is why it costs £30).
