“Our Famous” Safety Razor

Here’s something to consider, a razor that cost $0.25 and a 1000 blades for $15.
I tried it today with a GEM, it worked fine but is very light so needs a few passes.
I doubt many exist today as it is not that sturdy, being pressed steel. The handle is just pressed into the frame so it would have worked loose over time, perhaps an early disposable razor? Interesting piece of social history.

I particularly like the tip to strop the blade on your hand! Can’t imagine that advice being given today.

I hand-strop GEM blades all the time. Mainly to get them dry. Sound advice.

Here’s something to consider, a razor that cost $0.25 and a 1000 blades for $15.

The razor was indeed cheap. However:
If we assume the razor to be from approximately 1920, then $15 would be about $220 in today's money.
1000 GEM blades are about $175 today.
