Need another razor

Been using my Merkur Futur daily now for some time, and after experimenting with the settings, finally settled on number 3 as my comfort setting. There are certain blades e.g. Lord, which require a tweak to setting 4 to give the best shave, and Feathers, which can be fine at the less aggresive setting 2. I have come across a few blades which some forum users say are fine ( e.g. Shark Platinum) but I can't get a decent shave with. I thought that with 6 settings. the Futur would be the only razor I would need, but I think it's time to look at others. I have a fairly tough growth and, as I shave daily, my skin can take a fairly aggresive approach without too much aggro. In summary, I am looking to buy another decent razor, but have no idea which one to go for. Can some kind member point me in the right direction with pros and cons ?

Excellent quality head, relatively mild. Better quality handles also available.

Excellent quality, very popular, slightly more aggressive than the Jagger. Also available in the longer handle version (38C) Out of stock at TSG but will be available elsewhere.

Even with different blade gaps there's different head shapes, closed or open combs and handle weight and balance all have factor in.
You could get on the passarounds if you're not already on them. Slant and Fatboy available, possibly others.
Are you interested in the vintage route? The Tech is mild but effective and easy to get on with, and widely available and cheap. Fatboy is adjustable but with a mild head design and blade gap. Super Speeds are cheap, widely available and quite effective for some, especially as there are 'standard' aggression levels and mild 'blue tip' and more aggressive 'red tip' variants.
For a more aggressive type try an open comb New or Old Type.
www.mr-razor.com has pics on what's what, vintage-wise.

The other modern adjustable, the Progress, has a great adjustability range and very effective head design (in my opinion). Bit heavy and slippery arguably.

Some things to think about. If you can, try before you buy is always nice.

What about a Slant? I've never tried one personally, but I've read many opinions on them, and they certainly seem to suit those with hardy faces. Of the two Fido linked, I think I'd advise the Merkur in your instance, as it's got that bit more "bite" than the EJ head. If you have large hands, I'd suggest going for the 38, which has a longish handle. Popular blades in the Merkur include Gillette 7 O'clocks, Astra SP, Personna Platinum, Shark SS and, my favourite, NOS Gillette Bleues (in the plastic dispenser, NOT the card tuck). If you really want aggressive, then the combination of the Merkur head and a Feather blade should do the job.

I would recommend a merkur slant as its good with tough hair growth. The merkur 37c or the 39c (the long handled version). I've used the 39c daily now for about 3 months and would highly recommend the feather blade for it.

Good man.

I could be completely off the mark here but would your avatar pic happen to be from Jim Henson/John Hurt's The Story Teller; specifically an episode called The Heartless Giant, circa 1988? Looks uncannily like the giant in it.
Probably way off the mark given how obscure it is!

EDIT: maybe not uncannily but:

It's actually from our wedding album, the wife was looking a bit rough that day :icon_razz:
If you go to avatardeluxe.com and click "fantasy", you'll see this and other cool ones.
