First shave with a Gillette new

What a razor!lovely smooth shave,nice and close and no stress.with a derby still good! Very impressed by it.just wish the handle was a little heavier,but still lovely.

Is it an American or English one? My English New is one of the razors that beat the R41 ;-)

The New is one of my favourites too. So much so that I, erm, have 4 (though all with different handles).

English one.well the; one I got in a pif from notthestig seems to be a french service box but its not the correct handle.is there a weight difference with the handles?

There are a whole raft of different handles. My favourite is the fat handled one, really nice to grip and gives a bit of added heft.

Mine just needs replating and it'll be spot on.

Could always use a heavier handle like one off a polish Lux razor but I like the news the way they are to be honest

What do the lux handles look like.just tried a fat handled tech handle and it doesn't fit between the base plate ridges annoyingly.may have to get hold of some lead shot to pop in handle.anyone got any they fancy selling me?!?!?

The handle is important but you're over looking another more important element in using this and earlier razors... The Blade! These earlier Gillettes do work well with blades such as the Derby. The '04's love them!

Treet next I think.no idea why I like these blades but they just work with my face.along with super Max blues.

OK, I tried it with an Astra this morning. Gorgeous, smooth shave, nice and close with no irritation! (which is a first for me with the astras). Really enjoying this razor!
