Disposing of old phones without security risks

I got a couple of old devices that for one reason or another will no longer switch on.

They still have personal data on them (email, contacts etc) so don't really want to just chuck them.

Is there anywhere that takes these phones/tablets that I can trust.

They have lithium batteries in too so that is another reason why I don't fancy putting a hammer to them and binning

Crack it open, whip the battery out, find the ram chip and put a nail through it.

Better solutions are probably open to you though.
