Just had a 40s style superspeed arrive in a slightly grubby state and with an frighteningly squeeky opening mechanism. After giving it a soak and a good scrub with my trusty cleaning kit toothbrush, I had an inklng that it was an accumulation of scale that was causing the offending noise. Thought I would try a denture tablet soak which worked a treat, no squeek and no effort gave it a rinse and the mechanism was as smooth as silk. Thought I would pass on this cheap and effective cleaning tecnique.
