Cleaning a brass razor

Hi , i have a Gillette New in brass ( ithink).
Whats the best way to clean it.
Its got some green gunk around the teeth and some brown colour on the handle, can i just go at it with a wire brush or is there a differant type of metal under the brass.

Not a wire brush! Brasso would be better, but I am sure that someone will know the definative answer.

soak it for 24 hours in a cup of straight white vinegar

then scrub lightly with a used toothbrush

The stuff i have is Sarsons Malt Vinegar (brown vinegar) can i use that.

I think ideally the clear pickling vinegar is best. Grab yourself a few onions and spices while you're at it and you can make pickled onions while you clean your razor! :hungrig

Toothpaste with an old toothbrush works wonders, then do the vingar bit, and rince thoroughly. (vingar is acid, so you don't want to leave residue on it)
I use toothpaste to polish a lot (white stuff is best), it's a mild abrasive.

Ok popped down Tesco and got a bottle of White Wine Vinegar , thats all they had.
I bet this is not the right stuff ?.

It's is, basically you need the cheapest white/clear vinegar you can find, anything else is a waste, I pay 30p for a bottle of 1 litre here.

Ahh right , so there was no reason i couldnt of used my Sarsons vinegar from the cupboard . The white wine vinegar was only 53p anyway.

Hi , here it is after 12 hours in vinegar and a scrub with toothpaste , couldnt believe how well it came out.
