Bruno's Straight Razor

A bit of a different project here - one of the guys on Straight Razor Place (Bruno) forged this blade and ground it up to 80 grit only so that someone could polish it as a project.

The first photo shows it as received then followed by polished. You will notice I modified the heel slightly to tone it down and also just take a fraction off because I couldn't get the right curve on the bottom of the scale. As it was, I was in danger of having a very sharp point protruding below the scale. The scales are rams horn - I usually use buffalo horn but decided to try something different as I intended to leave the ridges - however that wasn't to be so I sanded both front and back.

That looks really good - yet another brilliant piece of razor porn from you Rob!

Have you shaved with it yet?

Yes, this morning - it's obligatory. It was honed on 1k, 4k, 8k synthetic to set the bevel and polish a little, then I used a Japanese natural stone with different naguras to really polish and refine the edge. 20 laps on linen, 50 on 3" leather then 50 each on two small travel strops that mean I have to use a cross stroke. Very smooth.

This one has been added to my sale details.

Ya know for a custom razor that looks like a lovely grind ;) I think you were spot on with the heel rework Rob.
Great looking razor, I would love a really honest review of it's shaving properties as I have always been a bit skeptical of the claims of some of these custom razor owner/makers.

There is something about this grind that looks 'right' an them scales put the icing on the cake, scales, polish work...top notch!

Looks super sweet!

Did you tape the spine? :p

Yes, but guess what, instead of using the much vaunted calculator, I took a guess at two lots of tape - the photos were taken before honing. The width is 8/8 and I could have used 3 layers.
