Animation

My son would like to have a go at animation. He's taken a series of photos on our camera already but I have no program on my PC that will splice them in to a movie. As far as I know, anyway. I am pretty sure expensive programs such as Photoshop can be used, but can anybody recommend me a cheap and cheerful one that I could purchase that would get him on the way to becoming the next Nick Park?

Thanks ravey, I had a search and for some reason it's not on my PC, but I've found that I can download it for free. :icon_razz:

My kids like making lego movies.
We use a webcam, PC running Ubuntu and a program called Stopmotion (free). They can add 'laser' effects.
At the kids schools they use Apple Macs and high definition cameras. Not sure what software they use.
