444 Alum / Styptic

Hi all,

Does anyone have any knowledge of the differences between 444's two different alum blocks/pencils as per the link below?

I can't see a difference in the narrative... appreciate your thoughts, gents.

These two seem to have very similar descriptions whereas my experience of styptic pencils is that they differ significantly (in appearance) from alum. They are more 'pasty' and have a bigger concentration of whatever it is that causes astringency.

I always keep both at hand but only rarely use the pencil if the block isn't effective.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for your response. Not sure I explained myself adequately - I was trying to see if anyone knew the difference between the Red (Cutoline) and Blue (Haemostatic) Alum products that 444 manufacture, not the pencil and the block.
