My wife can use most things I throw on, they all end up running Gnome anyway. But in this instance she needed some specific Word functionality which was not available in Libre Office and I could not be bothered messing around with Wine to get Word going.I'm an evangelist, i am forcing my wife to use at least Ubuntu for her daily stuff at home (fb, some chat, some news, lots of shopping, lots of shoes...)
It works...9 out of 10 logins are on the linux partition. Unless she learnt how to cheat logon
If win is needed,I always have a dual boot for her. Or even a virtualbox vm, but she then loses herself between the host and the guestMy wife can use most things I throw on, they all end up running Gnome anyway. I'm going to put Linux back on at some point as I occasionally use that machine rather than my work Mac. Problem is the CPU does not support virtualisation so I am unable to run a VM to use docker/lxc etc, I need to run it natively on Linux.

Mandrake, takes me back. I started using Linux on a very old version of Suse. Then moved on to Melissa followed by Debian Testing branch. I then moved on to Pardus Linux (fantastic distro, this is the one I was a package maintainer for) and then bounced between Debian, Arch, Solus and Ubuntu. I had a small period using Mandriva but never got on with it.Been running many different distros since 200, mainly Mandrake when it was da bomb, but have for many years settled on Ubuntu after a shorter period with Debian. Now running Ubuntu Mate on my old X220 Lenovo and it runs like a charm.
Parents are also running Ubuntu and have for years. Since I told (!) them to let me install Ubuntu I've never had so little support time when visiting them - it just runs and runs and runs.
Has anyone ever played with Gentoo? I always have a vm ready for those days in which I hate myself and search for a redemption
