Are there any specific soaps that lather well in hard water areas of the country......or do you just have to work a bit harder to lather up?

Exactly the same hereI live in a hard water area, but never any problem, even with MWF. Maybe a bit more water is needed, but when I have shaved in a soft water, I hadn't noticed any difference.
+1Les2, why waste money on bottled water!! I live in a hard water area, and no problem creating a luxurious lather.. also no problems in keeping razors clean. If anyone thinks you have to mess about with bottled water, it will put them off wet shaving!!
I second that. I mainly use TfOBS creams but am currently using Mitchell Wool Fat and have no problem building a good lather. With the MWF I load for about 30 seconds on the puck, for the cream it is a very large almond sized snurdle.+1
Totally unnecessary. A fraction more elbow grease and soap is all that's required
