Your favourite tallow soap

...I have come to enjoy all of the mainstream european hard tallow soaps that I have used - DRH, Tabac, Haslinger, Valobra, Palmolive, Speick, Arko, Lea etc. and a fair few of the Italian tallow croaps. My favourite tallow soap changes from time to time but at the moment DRH and Arko are the ones I find myself reaching for the most. With the periodic reformulation of soaps resulting in fewer mainstream hard tallow shaving soaps and now only a handful of tripple milled tallow soaps, I find myself stocking up, probably irrationally, on DRH and Tabac and I am now stocking up on Lea Classic before it is finally gone. The artisan tallow soaps do not offer me the same performance, consistency or value although I find some of the scents just terrific.

Agreed. I enjoy DR Harris very much as well.

Arko has a permanent spot in my collection. I don't use it as much these days, but I know it's there when I would need a good reliable soap and perfect for my travels.

Salter, OSP, Valobra, LPL (Tallow) Speick stick, MWF, Palmolive stick, DR Harris, Stirling ,Tabac, B&M , and some I have and still use but are no longer in production, Haslinger (Tallow), Figaro P.160, Old Spice but my soap changes every day so to pin down a favoured one is very hard indeed. :) if it was price and performance it would have to be the Palmolive Stick though and then the Speick Stick, I think the Palmolive is a little less expensive than the Speick.

Well I can't say as I have a favourite for the same reason others have alluded to - there are lots of good tallow soaps around many of which I've still to try. At the moment I'm only using Figaro P.160. It's excellent and I have a kilo block to get through before any more soap purchases will be on my agenda. Maybe that'll be in 3 or 4 years time. Must also give a mention to Palmolive stick - excellent performance and value.

Today, in a fit of anger regarding the elimination of tallow from Haslinger soaps , I broke out my old Colgate Barber Soap that I had grated and added a smidgen of sandalwood EO to. Ah, the joy of a vintage tallow shave soap aged to perfection!! I envy those old codgers who back in the day could simply waltz into a local barbershop and buy soaps like this. Granted, they didn't have the wonderful scented soaps we have today, but those were men who washed their nutz with steel wool and held their socks up with thumbtacks. ;)

Is this true? Haslinger to stop using tallow in their soaps and if so when will this take place?
