Your favourite tallow soap

What is the main points of a great soap compared to a so so?
Personal preference? Slickness, cushion, post-shave feel etc.

Of course, each of these will vary person to person due to technique, prep, routine... I.e. if you use an ASB and pre-shave oil, slickness and post-shave feel might be 'good' regardless of soap used.

For me to answer the thread title, I'm a big fan of P&B soaps for their characteristics. That being said, I'm yet to use many other tallow-based soaps. I've some OSP which I should be using before long so can judge that then. P&B Imperial Rum and P&B Denali are ticking boxes for me at the moment. For one which I can't help but reach for, recently at least, Stirling Lemon Chill! :D

P&B Spitfire, Valobra and Eufros (Jabonman)

Note) I originally posted MdC, technically a tallow soap (Warning: this produce may contain traces of peanuts and tallow) but the above products lean a bit more toward tallow.

With DE - same same most tallow soaps did equally well

With Straight Razor - Haslinger all the way

(judging technical performance only ie lather - not artistic aka scent :) )

Anything made by Valobra, particularly Valobra Stick, Czech & Speake Oxford & Cambridge and the sadly discontinued Art Of Shaving Sandalwood. In second place, Cella.

There is a lot of love for Valobra on the forum. I found czech and speake to be an amazing soap with a lot of protection and excellent post shave feel.

Ever since I tried Pannacrema Pure2O, I completely surrendered to it. The DFS scent is not quite my thing, but damn, I can't seem to stop using this stuff, it's that good. The post shave is the only thing I don't find superb, it's only very good.

Surprisingly, I don't see many comments on this soap, I believe people see it as a poor relative to the Nuavia series. Well, it's not poor at all.

I don't understand why Valobra doesn't market their own version of the vintage AOS Sandalwood soap(?). Meanwhile, I am waiting on a Haslinger Spa Sandalwood puck I just ordered as I have become a rabid convert in using their Schafmilch. That said, there are several great tallow soaps today. Far more than there were 75 yrs. ago I'd wager. Too many to list.

Ralph Lauren Safari.

Amazing scent.

Hey buddy what's doin,

Yep, that soap's so good to huff that I pound some extra lather up my nose when finished shaving. Easy to tell when to stop loading....when my brain starts to sting is a good indication. Smell that all day....my little secret and you should try it!!!

Not to enable you or anyone else of course, but this recent Old Spice refill acquisition is similar to the RL as far as how easy the lather's created and how dense it is. Neither are triple mill hard but rather a little softer than most older soaps which makes loading the brush a snap. Not a bad fallback, since the Safari has been tough to find for a while now.

Type at you later,

Martin

I have the Safari AS and EDT to go with the soap, but I might try snorting the lather at some point.

You have reminded of the OS.
Just lined it up for tonights shave - Thanks
