YaQi 24mm 'Tuxedo' Synthetic

7.69 dollars to call: I am ordering one from Virginia Sheng, the one with a (too) small faux horn handle would make a perfect travel brush, small, light, fast drying, and if lost "Who cares".

This is as good a time as any to mention that just yesterday I compared in person my new Maggard 24mm black handle brush with my custom TurnNShave 25mm "fan" Tuxedo and a friend's West Coast Shaving 24mm "Black Synthetic" brush. Mine are both the same texture, composition and work alike in "feel". The WCS brush has darker white tips that are not as soft and is not IMO a bonafide Tuxedo knot.

Finally, the WCS brush:

Remember this video from a chap explaining the differences between multiple Tuxedo knots?
He got an imitation (from an artisan brushmaker) that looked like a Tuxedo but whose fibres were different, hence the copy. I read some posts about it on reddit, there are some Chinese factories making Tuxedo-like knots (I'm talking about Yaqi's and APShave!s), they're just more "rough" and of a lower quality.

Is this the video you are thinking of?

The video description has this below
"So there has been an increasing number of buyers out there who have received knots from brush makers or knot distributors that are not actually “Tuxedo” knots. The term “Tuxedo” knot began with the original seller of these knots, APShaveCo. (https://www.etsy.com/shop/APShaveCo). Around that same time, Envy Shave (http://envyshave.com/) and Wolf Whiskers (http://www.wolfwhiskers.com/) unveiled their fan style “Black Wolf”. Most recently, Maggard Razors (http://www.maggardrazors.com/) released their own black and white synthetic knots, I am calling them “Black Mag”.

The Tuxedo, Black Mag and the Black Wolf are identical synthetic fibers but packed differently, therefore giving them different shapes. The Tuxedo is a bulb shape and the Black Wolf is a fan shape. They all have luxurious soft tips and a densely packed knot that provides ample backbone and splay resistance. I can recommend any one of these or all of these for use and enjoyment.

Recently, many artisan brush makers went in on a group buy for what they were told where Tuxedo knots. What was received was not a Tuxedo knot. They are what I call “Tuxedo like”. The fibers are not the same. They are slightly thicker which creates more splay residence and more backbone to the point where the tips feel less soft. They are also not as densely packed. While these knots are not awful, they do not provide the luxury that is associated with the term Tuxedo knot (or Black Mag or Black Wolf for that matter)."

Precisely.
There was a post about it in reddit, but it has been redacted because the artisan fixed the problem.

So a lower quality as in a different feel, sort of silvertip vs finest two band, the Virginia Sheng Tuxedoish knot maybe qualifying as the latter?

@Cristobal

That video sources APShave as being the original source to sell "Tuxedo" knots. If they aren't selling true Tuxedo knots as you have written above, but imitations then who first started selling them? Is the video wrong then?
