Why do I find AC blades uncomfortable?

I so don't understand the guard concept. Why wrap a coil of wire around the blade so it can't get perfectly flat to the skin? It just leads to adding pressure in razors that for the most part, do not need it.
I used the guard blades when I first started using a Feather SS Kamisori for the sake of safety and got some great shaves from them, the wire is so thin you don't notice it when shaving, however when I got more confidence and started using the pro blades I found my shaves went from great to really great so they have there place for beginners and if you do mess up you won't need to go to hospital! :)
Just knowing they have a guard stops you worring about cutting yourself while you are learning your tecnique. I don't use them now and have a few left so I may well PIF them so someone else can build confidence while learning. :)

I find a ProGuard comes in handy when needing to tame a razor that's a little too aggressive. On the other hand, I use a Feather Super to make a mild razor more aggressive. Pro blades are pretty much right down the middle IMO and you really can't go wrong with them in most razors.

This was my last roll of the dice with SE AC shaving. I have an artist club folding, an artist club straight and a Hawk and the blades were all too much for me. All very sharp and efficient but too harsh for me. Last chance saloon was to buy just the head of the General razor and Bingo, its the difference between night and day. So smooth and still efficient. Its a winner. I think the artist clubs and the Hawk will be appearing very soon in the BST. The general, you will have to prise out of my cold dead hands.

I think you may be onto something here as I have also tried the Kai Mild blade in a borrowed Hawk I am using and it was harsh as well. So much so that I have have only done two 1/2 shaves & called it quits. I don't get the sharpness, but just a lot of tugging and overall harshness. I have yet to try the Feather Pro before giving the razor back to its rightful owner, which cannot be too soon if that blade shaves as harshly as well.

I had a similar experience with Softguards, tried twice and found very harsh and tuggy; gave up each time !

The Feather Pro is the ONE..We have to Remember these AC Blades were NOT Designed for Safety Razors & Some are Not Fit for Shaving the Face in My Experience..The Guards in Particular..:)

I got my first Feather AC (folding SS) from Andy on the BST a couple of weeks back and have had three experimental shaves with it so far; three different blades, each freshly loaded for that shave and mowing at the same two day growth.

1: Feather Pro Guard ....... Verdict: F***ing useless (skipping and tugging like a bastard, not my idea of fun).
2: Feather Pro Super ....... Verdict: F***ing sharp ..... some attention to detail required here. ..... Details like 'how close is that blade before I decide to twitch my cheek?' ... Got a little nick to remind me of that.
3: Kamisori ....... Verdict: F***ing sharp but a bit smoother out of the dispenser than the Pro Supers.

Not exactly what I'd call a review, but I can say right away those ProGuard won't be seeing any more action. Have still to try the Feather Pros, Kai Captains or Schick Prolines. One shave each from a new razor and three new blades doesn't give me any experience worth speaking of with this setup, but it will be interesting to see how these blades evolve with each shave over the coming weeks.

I think I have hit the PODR (point of diminishing return) with these. When you are facing an experimental shave with about as much eagerness as a handjob with a handful of treble hooks it's time to reassess. I am truly glad that some people have found blissful shaving with these as there is nothing good about starting the day with a lousy rough shave that felt like using a bean can lid. As for me, I am going back to my lowly Techs and injectors after a last run with the Feather Professional blade in the Hawk and beg forgiveness for my infidelity.

Exactly my experience. Give the Schick Prolines a try. Very smooth. I found them to be a night and day difference. You'll find lots of glowing reports on these blades on the forums from people who had the same experience with FAC blades. The only trouble is they're not easy to get hold of but take a look on EBay. I ordered some last week.

Hopefully I can now use my Hawk and El Jefe without feeling like I'm shaving with a rusty bean can lid :)

You have a wonderful way with words......I would never have thought I would have seen the words "Handjob" and " Treble hooks" in the same sentence :)
