What's your best budget shave cream?

A while ago I used Viking shaving cream - the postage actually cost more than the cream!

Anyway, it produced the most feeble lather I've ever seen, and I was thinking I wouldn't use it again, but low and behold I had a marvellous nick-free, irritation-free shave with it.

I've only used it once but I will use it again.

Another vote for the Nivea combination here.

Shave soap is fantastic for the money, the sensitive ASB is absolutely superb for the money, especially if you get it at £2.50 a bottle :)

I'm one of those people that really can't use Nivea, especially the sensitive stuff. I wouldn't say I've sensitive skin either, just irritates me like not much else ever does.

Recently took a tube of Bodyshop Maca root (£5.50) to the Canaries, I thought it deserved a holiday, not over impressed I have to say, so managed to find a tube La Toja for the princely sum of 2.29 euros, so nice I almost ditched the Maca to save weight on the return flight.... Almost ! ;)

Gordy:

NrOS (New but REALLY Old Stock) eBay $14 Edwin Jagger badger brush. My first shaving brush. My sink water can get very hot, which is a plus during the cold and flu season, but hard on brushes. After 4+ consecutive months with the Proraso, I wanted to try my other creams so began loading the brush with extra cream. End of story (and the brush).

Proraso takes some beating

Trouble is, when you see what else is out there, you can definitely beat it. I personally have always found it lacking in a few departments, very drying too, adding to a less than satisfactory post shave feel. It's not bad for the price but compared to some cheaper products like Vitos, even Arko, it falls short. Move up a step and you simply wouldn't use it again.

That's clearly a 'YMMV' issue, because I've used many 'top tier' creams and find that for my skin, proraso (white) contributes to a better shave, which is why it remains in my rotation and other more expensive creams don't.
