What sandalwood soap / cream would you recommend?

As the AoS sandalwood soap is mentioned repeatedly, I'd like to point out that there are two versions: The vintage tallow version made by Vallobra (one of my absolute favourites, which may still be available on eBay) and the present version with a mediocre soap base.

There's a YouTube video that makes reference to the AOS sandalwood having the same scent to the Fine Santal but much inferior performance, I would think the comparison is with the new version of the AOS soap.

Out of curiosity I looked on ebay and I saw 2 or 3 soaps for sale. My guess these are the newer version. There's one being offered for £75, my guess is this is also one of the newer version.

It's easy to tell the NOS tallow version from the present one:

My pleasure to enable you sir!

The pleasure is all mine and I'm so glad that you did :)

I purposely shaved late this morning, I had a feeling the postman would bring me the NOS AOS Sandalwood soap and he did :)
Do I like it? I do indeed. I was pleasantly surprised with the performance...excellent performer. The scent is kind of similar to the Fine Santal Absolute, however, I also detect a spicy note in the Fine that I don't in the AOS.

I'm glad that I got the two pucks... very greedy of me :( but I like to have a backup of everything that I like .... every time I say that in front of the wife she reminds me that I just put my foot in it :)

So another favourite to the list....

One last observation, this soap scent reminds me of a cup of black tea, after it's been left in the cup overnight :) and I quite like that. Anyone else? :)

Glad you enjoyed, it's performance is very good. It's the only made by Valobra soap I have and I will definitely try their other offerings. Can't say I've detected any black tea like scent to it, I get a hint of butterscotch creaminess on the finish.

A few weeks ago, I bought a couple of Tobs Sandalwood soaps, one was a shaving stick and the other a puck
but both have a very different scent. The stick soap is stronger in scent than the puck, even when lathered. I also pick up Proraso red but I don't really like the scent but the Aftershave is brilliant.

I have the TOBS stick and quite like it.

As for the red Proraso I'm struggling with the scent when lathered.

The Catie's Bubbles Sandalwood is my favourite ATM :)

Before today I have only tried Proraso Red and that was my only knowledge of the Sandalwood scent. I quite liked it.
I just got a TOBS Sandalwood soap and lathered it. So much difference to Proraso. It doesn't seem even close.
TOBS seems to me like an old school, matured, classic scent, more pure while Proraso seems like a modern take on Sandalwood with some extras.
I like them both, but TOBS IMHO is far better in terms of quality, slickness, lather....

I thought I would expand / correct my post above, now that I've used the Fine Santal and the AOS tallow Sandalwood.

Scent: I can easily tell them apart, while they are both very nice to my nose, the Fine Santal has a spicy note, on the other hand I get a distinctive clay note in the AOS. So am I missing anything if I want to try AOS but I get the Fine Santal like the video suggest? I'd say yes, the Fine Santal it's not the same as AOS sandalwood.

Performance: I think they are both very good, it's harder to tell them apart in performance, I'd give the edge to AOS but just.

I found and interesting discussion about the AOS tallow vs AOS veggie on B&B https://www.badgerandblade.com/forum/threads/review-aos-sandalwood-veggie-formula.329307/

It seems that the difference between the two is small, and that can only be good news :)
