What next?

How about a simple blade selection pack? Give you a chance to experience an array of different brands, without the outlay of new razor. May find one that helps you get a closer, efficient or smoother shave. Loads online. When I started, I bought this one.

This is the way to go you will feel different levels of aggressiveness of different brands of blades

This is the way to go you will feel different levels of aggressiveness of different brands of blades. Blades are a very personal thing, what suits me may not suit you. A bit of trial and error but I'm sure you will find blades that suits you.:) b.

I guess so. You have a relatively mild razor, so you may not find the blades overly aggressive. I prefer the term efficient. Smooth & efficient shave without any razor burn. Great idea trying loads of different blades. Have fun. You'll find one that works for you.

I used EJ and it gave a smooth shave, but I wanted a change. I bought the Mùhle Rocca. This has a larger blade gap. Like all new razors it took a few shaves to like this razor .Now I love it. Super close shaves after 2 passes, skin has never felt better, still smooth in the evening. With this more aggressive razor, good preparation is extremely important. Don't skimp on soap! With this razor, the heavier steel heads weight really does to the work with nil pressure.

I'm using Feather and Polsilver blades, just got some Astra SP today to try.

Have also tried Wilkinson Sword & Super Max Platinum Plus, but won't be going back to either of them as I didn't like them.

Soap is TOBS Sandalwood.

I found using a heavier handle with an 89 head made a positive difference. Between that and someone in the past on here saying get to know your face and passing on some great hints on how to lather up correctly.

Blades as I am still finding out really is a personal matter

Been mooching around for something different, and found this. Loads of info on Ikon razors - this one seems to be off the radar as one of the cheaper versions? Like the concept.

They don't seem too sure what the head is made from as they describe it as 100% Stainless Steel & yet they also describe it as zinc alloy, chrome plated.
Is the head even an Ikon ?

You'll have time to speculate, as the last bit in the description says "delivery same day dispatched first class delivery get by christmas" Which, even by recent standards, is a bit tardy.

And my EJ DE89s must be super special, after all they also have this "razor head is made from zinc alloy chrome plated, a rare and innovative feature"
