What made your day a good one

Back home from a great weekend with the scouts.

Back a long time ago my Boy Scout troup was off to the big state wide Jamboree after the 4th of July and for a weekend of camping with lots of other kids. I was 12 or so. This was pretty loosely controlled at times since the Scouts could do things in their free time. Such as having firecracker fights, tossing javelins uncomfortably close to everyone, and shooting roman candles at each other.

Ssshhhhhhhhhh. Don't tell anyone, we had full cans of sealed Cola on a fire, tins flying everywhere. But the best thing was disposable gas lighters. The cheap 5 for £1 ones, now they make a pop ! I'm not a wrap them up in cotton wool leader. We had a safety cordon but you do need to show them what will happen.

Do you still play "split the kipper" with a throwing knife?

Game we played most was mumblypeg which sounds like what you mean. We also had another good game played with a good sized non Scout knife, doing things like starting with the knife point on your shoulder and letting it fall off and stick in the ground. Kinda like the game Horse using trick shots.

Bought my first (Chief Drowning Bear) bullwhip from the Scout magazine.

In the morning, Watching my 9 year old score his first half century and caught out 3 of the opposition. Happy day, must have been the great shave we had together. See lather thread for his first attempt! Afternoon took my 11 year old daughter clay shooting, boy does she have a keen eye!

Getting away from downtown SF. Game day coupled with the annual pride parade created a perfect storm crowd with an estimated 1.2 million people out and about.
Since I'm straight and don't care about baseball I opted to go sailing [emoji3]

For a while in the late 70s into the mid 80s I was friends with a bunch of stockbrokers my age or some a bit older with a San Rafael office location. One year I went out with a bunch of em on Opening Day on a large sailboat and had a blast. First time I had ever seen those great water balloon slingshots in action with the boats shooting at each other.
