There were some unusual consequences of the jet stream mean position being so far south during July, with this being the most prominent:

& we've got some of the best surfing beaches in Britain as well ! ( But be sure and bring your wet suit ... even in " summer " ).

Yes, it's been a lousy summer for the north-west of the UK, western Scotland especially! If it's any consolation, the past month has been cloudy and breezy here as well, albeit fairly warm.

I know this thread is UK weather, but I thought it was an interesting subject; sometimes, the remnants of these systems get caught-up in the jet stream and deepen as conventional deep areas of low pressure which then affect us, so there is a tenuous UK link anyway.
