Thinking about an adjustable

Well, you're not really supporting a company that's making quality razors, but you are supporting their next Kickstarter campaign. Their way of conducting business it's a bit odd. There are no risks involved in what they are doing, they make Kickstarter projects for all of their razors and they skip some customer>buyer obligations by doing so. Not a big fan.

I've only tried the Merkurs, Progress and Futur, so, my experience is not as vast as many other users. The lack of experience is due to the quality of both of these razors, as I did not felt the need of trying anything else after I bought them. They are just perfect for my face.

I can't tell if the difference for a Digress is justifiable. My Progress is great as it is.

After a few times using a non aggressive razor, I always enjoy using the progress and Futur,
if I only had one choice of razor, it would be the progress, though i only ever use it on 2.5, I am not convinced that i would buy a remodeled one, though i may remodel mine in the future, it's a great all round razor though, I would pick the progress over the futur because though the futur is a great razor, it's also a rather large razor.

In Your price range best option is merkur futur. But if you consider rise your budget there is barbaros&rocnel all stainless steel and adjustable.

Get a good used Gillette, not a mint cased one, just good used. Give it a clean as described in the caring for razors and use it daily.

I have a used slim twist that I got off eBay for around £20 delivered, it's been my most used razor since I got it years ago, if it gets cruddy I don't worry I just spray it with CiF cleaner, leave it to soak for an hour and rinse it down. The chrome is good enough that it still comes up shiny.

If you want a mint in box one, get one, but get another to use every day and not worry about :)

The best bet on an adjustable Gillette is this. Fatboy is tops for razors that can actually be found. Screw getting one with a case. A case in any condition can jack the price up 30-40%. Make sure it has the "service notch" tto knob.

Otherwise look for the Super Adjustables in the standard chrome/nickel finish. Long or short handle is fine. They shave well and can be rather affordable if you go on ebay usa. However the shipping will get you.

IF the prices of vintage adjustables has you down, get the parker adjustable. It has the looks of early 1920-1940 designs, and is going to be affordable.

"service notch" tto knob? Really interesting, but this had me confused, could you clarify? I have two Fatboys, one is a G1 and the other is a gold executive. What should I look for?

The later Fatboy razors could not be taken apart for servicing, most F date code & earlier have a slotted retainer inside the tto knob, the slots are for a "spanner" to service.
Although people strip & service the slim adjustable, so it may not matter.

IT MATTERS. When you try to take the crimped on plate off, even if the person doing it has the right knowledge, it has a very low percentage of working out in the end. As the plate has to be re crimped onto the tto shaft.

Well I finally found one at the right price. £32.60 delivered.
