The General in brass

Mine will be here hopefully in a couple of weeks. I ordered it the moment they went on sale.

Hello Wingman, I have the alum. general and I indeed find it smoother than the OB V1.
I can imagine the brass will be even better because of the heft, but to tell the truth, I was using the general with a heavier handle. I guess though the brass will be more balanced.
It will be a pleasure.

I think it's $16.00 to ship to the UK
Close! Give the young man a cigar. It's $16.95.

Someone on eBay, apparently on Merseyside, is selling new heads-only at £39.95 plus £2.85 shipping. Currently the Colonial website head-only price is $29.99 plus $16.95, total $46.94, which is about £38 at this very moment (assuming no duties etc. on top at the UK end). I'm not sure that I wholly approve of this, but I suppose there's not much difference between an individual having a punt and buying something like this in small quantities for resale, and a regular UK shaving supplier shipping them in and selling them. If my numbers are right, the UK entrepreneur is making a modest profit.

Edit
The eBay seller rings a distant bell, as perhaps having a supply of good shaving scuttles some long time ago. He has some Maggard razors, and a fair amount of shaving soaps etc.

Trust me gentlemen I have tried nearly every AC type blade razor at one time or another and the latest incarnation of the General (Brass) edges everything else into second place. I seem to remember in training my instructor saying " It pays to be a winner sir " and the General is just that a WINNER, so go ahead enjoy.

Sorry if you have already mentioned this before but....
Do you have the aluminium version as well? If so, are you saying the Brass version is better? If so why?

The thing I really like about the aluminium version is the weight. I'm not sure I'd like the weight of the Brass one. It's not far off the same weight as the Hone 15, which I've tried and didn't get along with due to the weight of it.

Also I wish they hadn't changed the shape of the handle. I know this was done for weight distribution but still prefer the shape of the aluminium one.

Hi Rob ,
Many of us found that the General performed better with a heavier handle, and because of feedback I think that is the reason for the development of the Brass version. All reports I have read so far have ben very favourable. It is often the weight of the Razor which allows you to develop a light touch with no pressure. Using some quite heavy
razors recently I have suffered no cuts or irritation.

I hope that you find the Supply Single Edge not too heavy, as I understand you are in the Lending Pool for it. I am trying the Brass General soon, courtesy of James@Acer89, and am scheduled to pass it on to you afterwards.

All the best with the Supply, just get the angle right though, I failed miserably but now have it sussed.

Thanks Mike for your response, much appreciated. I've used the General only once with a heavier handle but didn't feel any benefit. I've only used the Aluminium version a few times and trying different blades along the way and started to really love the razor. I had a Timeless on loan (worse problems to have I know) so had to stop using it for a short while.

I went from the Hone 15 (again on loan) straight to the aluminium General and loved the manoeuvrability of it compared to the Hone. After finding the right blade I've had better shaves with the General, compared to both the Hone 15 and the Timeless. The General really rewards you the more you use it and hone your technique. An obvious thing to say but it's true.

I know my initial question will become academic once I've used the Brass version. I just wondered what others had thought?

Yes I'm looking forward to trying the Supply, very cool looking razor. Fingers crossed it shaves as good as it looks.
I've been speaking with James this morning about borrowing a couple of razors from him too. I won't know what razor to use next.:p:)

Cheers
Rob

With reference to your question, I now have the Hone 15, Brass and Aluminium Generals and love them all. I use them as the mood takes me but must admit that I have only used the Brass General since it arrived last week. Adapting to the weight of each of the razors is not an issue for me, just selection of blades. I have yet to try Kai blades in the General but was not impressed when I used them in the RX, but that is another storey. I sold the Supply to a forum member although a great looking razor it just did not do it for me after an introduction to the Aluminium General. I am seriously thinking of outing my collection of Schicks as they will not see much use now, they are great for a quick close shave but I can now get that with a Hone or a General. I will keep my slants and iKon 101 to use from time to time.
I wonder what the next great shaving revelation will be ??? Watch this space.
