Synthetic, are people warming up to it?

I have several synthetics and love them all from the big Bruce to Plisson, Muhle, SBS. I have two rubberset 400 replicas one with the Muhle knot and the other with the Plisson synth. I do gravitate towards the Plisson because of a slightly better feel on the face, YMMV of-course. I do have a two band finest Badger which is my absolute favourite, but for the price difference, I would go for the new generation synthetic every time.
Is I'm a swirler, I dislike horse hair as it tangles up and needs combing. I find boar a bit on the harsh side with too much scritch, although I would use my boar on several days growth as it seems to handle it better.

So far I have tried 3 synthetics and have been disappointed by the plastic feel they leave on my face. Not holding water is another drawback for me but l will admit they create good lather and can whip up any soap. I've kept a Plissoft in my den but I don't use it often.

I've tried the Plisson, RazorRock and Muhle synthetics. Out of all three the Muhle has to be the nicest, although its also the smallest. Size wise hte RazorRock is the nicest (and biggest).

Oddly, I find the water thing to be exactly the opposite. My badgers need some time in the water to soak much up, but all the synthetics suck it up almost instantaneously. I then have to shake quite a lot out, as otherwise they make the soap too runny or wishy-washy.

I can't say that I've been won over to synthetics. I've been using a synthetic brush as my travel brush for the last couple of years and I can't say that they've matched any of my badgers in terms of face feel. I've been travelling the last two weekends and packed my Muhle silvertip fibre brush as I usually do. I've been paying very close attention to how it feels on my face and have to say that whilst it makes a good lather, it is awkward to lather with because the hairs don't splay easily causing me to mash the knot severely, which I don't like. I'll probably continue to use a synthetic when I travel because it dries quickly and can be packed whilst wet with impunity, but it won't give the great face feel of my badgers.

Have you tried the new Black Wolf and Tuxedo knots? I find this knot (most specially the fan) to be superior among all synthetics I have tried. Perfect for face latherers with sensitive skin like me.

I never thought I would ever buy a Synth but I'm pleased with the hand full of Razorock brushes I have now and use them for face lathering, very soft ,enough backbone and cheap , :) P.
The new 400 with aluminium handle is a nice brush. There's some real heft in the handle. I did think about the oversized 400 with the red handle, but I apply shaving soap, not emulsion paint or whitewash.

I've two brushes which I need to re-knot. One I've got the knot out without any drama whatsoever and I'm torn between a 2-band finest, silvertip and synthetic knot. The other I'm yet to remove the existing knot but I'm very much veering towards a 'tuxedo'-type knot, for looks more than anything. It's also my smallest brush so would make a nice traveller with a decent synthetic knot.

Even if you're a badger fanatic you won't regret getting a Tuxedo.

Really comfy!

I had a RazoRock Plissoft before which I found absolutely exceptional! Sold it to part fund a Maseto which I loved (bar the colour of the handle) so sold that... in short, I'm too fussy... I don't have any major preference of badger vs synthetic, despite only owning badgers at the minute...

I almost certainly will be getting a Tuxedo for the smaller brush, if I can find someone in the UK to ship one (though I believe Maggard's option is good value for money anyway). As for the bigger brush I'm still very much undecided! :D

I got mine at the following site. Don't know if it's competitive but I was very happy with the service.

This is the offering from Maggard, which people have claimed is not dissimilar to the APShaveCo ones... apparently the AP ones just pip them from what I've read but there's not much in it...

With postage, the Maggard Razor's offering comes in at $11.62 or £9.01... I think I might go with the Maggard one on cost factor alone. Just need to decide for the 26mm I've got now! :D

Cheers again everyone who's helped me along my reknotting quest.
