Stainless Steel?

Hi Chris,
I never got to use The Windsor SSR1. There was a mark on the baseplate, which in fairness was very small but the top cap wasn't finished off well at all. I could see lines and ridges running all along the top cap when it hadn't been polished correctly so I returned it without using it. Sorry I couldn't be of anymore help.

Cheers
Rob

Ah OK , thanks for the info Buddy!:)

I think 316 Grade SS is total over kill for a razor. 316 SS is Marine grade and designed to withstand corrosion when submerged for long periods of time and extreme temperatures such as Jet engine parts. How long is your razor submerged for and how hot is your water? Just saying…;):)

I agree, it may very well be overkill.. but when the price is overkill and when the competitor provides better materials at the same or lower price, I'm kinda wanting the same thing... :)

If i'm paying overkill money..........

Exactly.

316 is not “better” than 303/304, it is more corrosion resistant when exposed to chlorides. That last point is important because unless you're shaving in seawater and then leaving your razor soaking in it you're really not gaining anything with 316. The Chrysler Building has been clad in 304 stainless for nearly 100 years and it still looks just fine.

Your razor gets wet periodically and then lives in a nice warm house.

I'm beginning to wonder how the British ever forged an empire without stainless barrels for their Brown Bess muskets as one would think from reading this thread that they would have rusted down to the wood on an ocean voyage!! :D ;)

They oiled them, of course.
