SOTD: Saturday 9th June- Friday 15th June 2018.

How's the aftershave? I was looking at it in Superdrug just the other day.... I've got the matching shower gel which is actually very good (I generally hate shower gels so it takes a lot for me to say that!) Also picked up their charcoal face wash which is better than I anticipated.

Ive used the charcoal face wash and yeah, its ok. The birch sap balm is a strange one - not quite as thick or nourishing as their 24hr Moisturising balm, but more scent which is ok. Not sure I'd buy it again over other products. Probably worth a try though.

If you ever list that Friodur for sale, I'll be watching ;)

Prep: Valobra Glycerlanolina soap, Myrsol Emulsion
Brush: Paladin Lotus Select Badger
Soap: Declaration Grooming Colonia Balsamica
Razor: Rockwell 6C (4)
Blade: Polsilver Super Iridium (1)
Post: Thayers Cucumber Witch Hazel / Myrsol Emulsion
Scent: Acqua Di Parma Colonia

First shave with the Rockwell 6C, loaned by the fellow wet shaver. I took his advice that it was on the mild side for an adjustable, and set my first shave using the 4 plate.
Quite a bit of blade feel, but a very smooth shave with no irritation whatsoever. I just went with the basic three passes, as it was my first shave with this razor, and I was at a mid-aggressive setting. A DFS and good rangefinder for future shaves. The Declaration soap again displayed top tier performance - very slick and cushioning, with excellent razor glide. The scent, both off the puck and when lathering, is to my snozzer very close to the opening of ADP Colonia, which I think is a considerable achievement.

Ah OK, the cheapy packaging put me off in the shop - Good to know I'm not missing anything too amazing. I'll use the Friodur a few more times before casting final judgement on it, nothing is a long term keeper in my den so I'll message you when the time comes ;)

Yaqi Mysterious Space Timber Wolf
Rockwell 6S
Supermax Blue Diamond Titanium (3)
Meissner Tremonia Wild Oranges Shaving Paste
Nivea 2 Phase & Old Spice Wolfthorn

Couldn't resist giving the brush a run out, a bit less backbone than the Moka, slight glue bump similar to the Sagrada Familia, worked superbly though and I prefer it already to the Mysterious Space Tuexdo Fan. A nice blast of oranges today with the paste and aftershave, I must pick up the Meissner aftershave one day.

Haha thanks! Im just kidding though - i found the same with my stainless Herder at first but its become my favourite straight for shaving, although it doesn't look quite as good as your old Gotta :D

It's not very thick as Dan says, but I find it quite cooling. It isn't greasy either.
I bought it on offer at Wilkinsons for £2.50.
I would say that's about it's real price value.

Yep, Boots frequently run offers on the L'Oreal stuff (which is the reason I have a couple of different ones) for £3 each. Would not buy it at full price (£6 or something??)

Wednesday 13th June

Olive Oil Soap
Vitos Pre shave cream
OSP Grapefruit and Menthol Soap
Omega 10051 Boar Brush
Ikon MR-SE Razor on an Ikon Bulldog Handle
Proline -P Blade
Alum Block and Rinse
Aloe Vera Gel
Epsilon Mediterranean Blue AS
Iceberg Twice EDT.

First use of the Grapefruit and Menthol and it confirmed that I may have an 'Olfactory Impairment' as I couldn't detect the Grapefruit in the soap....just Menthol. As usual the performance was exceptional. The MR-SE doesn't seem to get much exposure....but the performance was as good as it gets!

3 passes (just because I could) for a very refreshing BBS shave:)

Wed 13th June

RazoRock Plissoft 24mm
Cyril Salter Solid soap
Ever Ready 1924 + longer handle
Gem S/S [ 3 ]
Jaguar Prestige A/S Lotion

After a Super Shave with the Streamline which is a Love/Hate Razor, I moved onto the more forgiving 1924. I find that I prefer it with a longer handle than the original, and I no longer Shim the blade. I find it incredibly smooth and easy to use and it delivers really top class Shaves, in terms of finish quality. I have reached the Stage where I am more confident using Gem/SEs than DE with which I can easily get little nicks and weepers. Today left feeling refreshed and squeaky clean. To finish off the blade it has to be a 1914 and one of the Gem MM family.

Essentially there are only 2 types of blades, despite the large selection and manufacturers out there. Coated and uncoated blades, that's it. Coated are smoother and become sharper after first use as the coating wears off. Voskhods are especially smooth because of the teflon coating, but Platinum is the most common, as we all know. Uncoated blades start sharp and just get more blunt with each use, thus feel sharper and harsher.

Astra SP (coated) is for daily shaving, not so rough beard, sensitive skin.
Astra SS (uncoated) is for occasional shaving with more growth to cut, rougher whisker, tough skin.
Manufacturers sell the same blade with different coatings, and they do feel and shave differently.

This used to be common knowledge for picking up blades for your needs back in the day, before the Great Cartridgepocalypse. I don't really see it mentioned very much. Everyone is (subjectively) obsessed with sharpness.
Voshkod T.C. are a great blade,(for my Merkur 37C./39C Slants) very reasonably priced too, most importantly they are suited to my skin type, i count myself lucky that 99% of all the blades that i've shaved with have been suitable for my skin type ( Mature Rhino Skin ) & acceptable. The only blade that i've had any real problems with has been the Derby Extra's, which i find very unpredictable, so i now stay clear of them...Sharpness is important in a blade, but equally important is it's smoothness, i find Feather blades overly sharp a little rough, even after hand stropping ,another blade i wouldn't use again. YMMV..My favourite blade at the moment that was passed on to me is the Dorco~Prime Platinum. Smooth, sharp and perform wonderfully with every razor i've paired them up with.

What a cracking shave that was.
The Streamline requires a bit more concentration than the Cobra but isn't far behind it in the efficiency stakes.
Finished off beautifully by the Bart's Balm.
Happy Shaving one and all.

Evening shave.....

Prep ~ Valbora Glicerlanonlina soap, Shower
Razor ~ Eskimo Adjustable set to 3
Blade ~ Personna 74*
Soap ~ OSP Peppermint & Rosemary
Brush ~ Semouge Owners Club (Taj) Finest two band badger
Post ~ Thayers Rose Petal
Scent ~ Guerlain Jicky EDP

A great close shave from the Eskimo paired with the 74* Blade, the OSP soap was outstanding but of course it was, it's OSP!
My first use of the new line in Semouge Owners Club brushes and it lived up to my expectations, the same great knot with a quality resin handle.
A spray or three of Jicky and I'm done. :)

Have a great evening people ....P.
