Greetings All,

Thursday shave.

Two growth and warm shave

Preparation – Showered then face washed with Clique Liquid facial soap (mild)

Soap: Tabac
Razor: Gillette Thin Adjustable (Setting 5)
Blade: Shark SS (2nd)
Brush: RazoRock 400 (face lather)

Post Shave: Hot then cold water rinse, Nivea 2 Phase followed by Tabac AS.

I decided my skin needed a day off – to be honest, I could not face shaving yesterday. So, this morning went to a reliable soap and razor. Result – best shave I have had all week by a long shot. Tabac never fails and my went too trusty Shark blade sliced through the whiskers.

This morning I am a HAPPY BUNNY :D

Cheers,

Brian

Mergress - 3.5/4.5
Rapira Platinum - 1
YaQi Space Silvertip
OSP Bay Rum

A much better shave with a new blade. I don't know why these Rapira's don't get more air-time. It worked fantastically out of the packet and no glue to fumble about with! Great lather from the OSP, as to be anticipated. The razor also performed wonderfully, giving me two solid passes resulting in utter smoothness. Felt much more like the Parker Variant today, with the additional balance of the longer handle. I think I prefer a slightly more head-heavy razor, personally, but this is a good'un all the same! Dick..I Dunno what Stone You Finish On..But..if You Fancy a Change of Pace then I Will Gladly Do One or Two for You on My Escher Thuri 16 K..Give Me a PM if You Fancy One Done..Or..Yellow Lake Brand 16 K..A Wee Change of Edge is Like Another Razor..:D:D

Billy
Greetings Billy

That is a very kind offer but I really enjoy preparing my own blades and I'm more than happy with them. I finish on a 12k Naniwa but having said that my finish is really on paste. After the 12k stone I use chromox on balsa and Feox on balsa and then hessian, car seat belt, and plain leather strops. It seems to work well for me and gives a nice gentle face friendly edge.

It is very rare that I return to the stones, I manage to maintain the edges on my blades for a very long time with the occasional use of Feox and less often Chromox.

Thanks again Billy for your kind offer.

Regards
Dick

Hi Ben,
Cheers for the tag and your thoughts. Sounds like you prefer the Variant then? I wouldn't mind trying the shorter handle Mergress. Not a fan of long handles myself.

Great photo too.

It's a tricky one, as I've had more air-time with the Variant. For the money, especially as some have popped up on BST, the Variant is an exquisite razor. Very easy to use with off-the-cuff adjustment ticks a number of boxes for me. :) The long handle is quite a welcome change for me actually. By far the longest handle I've had any exposure to, so where my hands would normally get in the way I have no such issue! Both the Megress and Variant definitely have their merits!

Also, cheers! ;)

Tuff Green A/S Lotion

Since changing to a non stock handle, I seem to be getting better Shaves with this Razor. I rather like its weight and industrial finish, no arguments as to how well a blade fits, the lugs are long.

Must get some other flavour of this Soap, it really does provide an excellent lather in next to no time. The Shave was really smooth and comfortable with an excellent close all round finish. Definitely do not need another AC/SE razor, in fact am minded to get rid of the Alu. ones in the future .

I've had the Variant on loan and I'm a big fan. Although longer than I like (not something I usually complain about;):p) , the only other thing was I didn't get a long lasting shave from it. I tend to shave every other day but I felt like I need a shave everyday after using the Variant.

I'll hopefully be having a short handled Mergress on loan in the New Year so I'll be able to compare them myself.
