Razor ~ CB Karve - D Plate
Blade ~ vintage Gillette Platinium Plus
Soap ~ Klar Kabinett

A great razor and blade combo, plus a fab soap and brush and not a lot can go wrong.......It didn't!
A very enjoyable shave leaving me as smooth as can be, a spray or two of Roses Vanille along with a couple of dabs of Rose Oud Oil had me smelling as nice as the Klar Kabinett.......Perfect!

Olive Oil Soap
Proraso Green Tea and Oat Pre Shave
Culmak Shaving Soap
Vulfix Grosvenor Badger/Boar Brush
RazoRock Black Hawk2 with a Feather Super Professional Blade
Witch Hazel
Arko Classic Moisturiser
Old Spice Bearglove AS

Today was a post night duty shave with basic ingredients. The extra blade exposure of the Super Pro compensated for the lack of razor weight and an excellent shave was very much enjoyed. I really like the Culmak soap which used to be seen everywhere but is now becoming more difficult to find.

Yaqi Sagrada Familia - Wickham Super Smooth V2 - Schick/Eversharp G1 - Schick Proline B #1 - Alum - Rose of Bulgaria A/S - Dove Instant Hydration cream

Fellow member Mike B aka @mpf9ret generously gifted me this gorgeous injector. Thanks Mike. So I coupled it with Wickham's Super Smooth V2 test soap. Thanks Darron @Fox

Firstly the razor: Worked like a charm, infinitely more efficient than the L1. Plus it looks and handles great. Definitely a keeper. So pleased Mike gave me the chance.

The Super Smooth test soap lathered really easily giving a copious thick lather which was slick and very protective.

The culmination of the above gave a lovely result.

Moss Anniversary Slate scuttle
Rooney Stubby 3 Porcelain Finest (26/54)
Hemingway Accoutrements shaving cream
Weber PH/Stork Advoco Titanium
Wilkinson Light Brigade (7)
Hemingway Accoutrements aftershave

An excellent shave in A Clean, Well Lighted Place. The brush is a favorite, with less backbone and softer tips than some of the other Finests. This shaving cream is one of my few modern ones, and it makes wonderful lather. The razor head paradoxically has less friction but is less smooth than the ARC and DLC.

D R Harris Lavender Shave Stick
YaqI 24mm Tuxedo Marble Handle
Rockwell 6C R4
Gillette 7 O'clock Yellow (1)
Lavender witch hazel (home mix)
PuIg Quorum Aftershave

After a couple of sub par shaves normal service has been resumed
Plate 4 on the Rockwell for me is a near perfect mix of smoothness and efficiency.
I don't often use 7 O'clock blades, but today's shave has confirmed that the Yellow variant suit me very well.
Finishing with Quorum Aftershave - I know it's scent will linger until gone bed time.
Incidentally, I noticed the other day that Savers are selling the gift set of Aftershave and EdT for only £14.99 - Bargain !

SOTD-08-10-2018.JPG

Pre-shave: Warm shower, Wright's Cold Tar Soap followed by warm water splash and Proraso Pre-shave Cream (white)
Cream: Murdock Avalon Shaving Cream.
Brush: Simpsons The Duke 2 Pure Badger.
Bowl: Aesop.
Razor: FaTip Piccolo.
Blade: Voskhod DE (Day 2).
Post shave: Myrsol Balsmic Water.

Ian in the Gentleman's Groom Room recommended that I give the Voskhod blade a try; today was the second shave with that blade. First impressions: smooth and sharp; a very good blade.

I really enjoy the FaTip; it works a treat - I would love to see a stainless steel version. The Murdock shave cream always seems to whip up into the perfect protective lather. 3 passes later (WTG; XTG and ATG face and neck) the post shave tingle from the Myrsol told me it was a good shave and it was DFS + / BBS - finish with no issues to report.

All the best,

Chris

Sotd - today - Monday - 8th 0f October -

Razor - Mergress (1.5)
blade - Aussie Spoiler (8)
brush - Vie Long Anniversary two-band
soap - Wickhams Super Smooth - Imperial Trevor
post - witch hazel
a/s - Old Spice - modern
balm - aloe vera gel.

Result - top end.

Nice shave - proper old school scents - depending on your age - and where you grew up in the world - soap that is a dead ringer for Imperial Leather bath soap - and the classic Old Spice to finish. Just lovely - nostalgic for me. I'm into uncharted territory with the Aussie Spoilers - I don't think I have gone beyond 6 uses with a de blade before - single edges - sure - but with double edges - even my favourite vintage Iridiums or Polsilvers - would have been tossed by this point. Absolutely so sign of degradation with the vintage Gillette blades - it is all true - thus far in my experience - what they say about them. Seemingly immortal. Very impressive. My understanding is that - in the early - to mid - seventies - there was proper innovation and competition - among blade manufacturers - until Gillette won out - and realised - why are we making blades that will last 20 shaves? - thence - onto the path of multi-blade carts - and built in obsolescence. Patents renewed. Who knows? A great shave for me. Did I see a mention of Wickhams trialing a version two of the Super Smooth formula? - I hope so. Enjoy your shaves gentlemen - yours - I.

Oh - digimonkey's lawyers would have me point out - after receiving writs from the association for the protection of civets - the A.P.C - and the civet protection league - the C.P.L - civets are not a threat to humans - quite the opposite - Sherlock Holmes was never attacked - or in deed - threatened by a civet - in any way shape or form. I'm happy to set the record straight. Hence the picture above - cute - aren't they? Ha ha ha.
