SOTD Saturday 5th - Friday 11th August

Greetings
I'm a little surprised that the blades are doing so well, I don't seem to be able to keep an Autostrop blade going this well, probably because you are realistically confined to the automatic stropper (unless you fit a temporary spine) and I am not very fond of any autostropping device that I have tried yet; including the Magnus Stropper included with some of the Heljestrand sets, it's just not possible to properly control the pressure and it's certainly not possible to use a super light touch!

I have found like you that I can't seem to keep the blades going on plain leather alone, you do need to use some sort of abrasive paste even if not for every shave.

Regards
Dick.
Dick, I have to agree, my Ever Ready stropping device just does not give the same results probably because as you have mentioned plain leather alone just doesn't cut it, however when using my home made stropping handle and the two abrasive pasted strops and then just on leather I am getting great results, the super light touch seems to be key.

Greetings All,

Thursday's shave.

One days' growth and warm shave

Preparation – face washed with Clique Liquid facial soap (mild)

Pre: Prorosa Red pre-share
Soap: P&B Spitfire
Razor: Rockwell 6C (3P)
Blade: Wilkinson (3rd)
Brush:RazoRock 400 Noir

Post Shave: Cold water rinse, followed by a shower then Proraso aftershave lotion (red) and Nivea 2 Phase.

So, after Monday and Tuesday's experience, today was like putting on one's favourite old shirt, you know the one; the one your wife / partner wants to throw out (and if it's that good you have recovered it from the bin) and just fit utterly perfectly – no more needs to be said about my shave. There is a lot to be said for P&B soaps and when the blade is at is best - Owwwwwwwwwwwwww

Brass General + S/S Handle
Feather Pro ( 2 )
Alum Rub / Rinse off
Tuff Green A/S lotion

The General Handle !
I gather that quite a few folk are like me, and not too enamoured with the original handle of the
General. It is not slippy but somehow it does not feel secure when shaving, especially when working
Around the neck. I understand from Kyle at Colonial the S/S version will have knurling on the Handle.

I have to no avail found a suitable brass handle, so decided to go ahead and use a S/S handle and never mind the looks. What a difference,I was able to easily change the position of my grip to suit the area to be Shaved.I felt more confident using the Razor and found it to be much more manoeuvrable. The Shave today was enjoyable and was probably the easiest and best Shave that I have had with the General.

Homemade preshave oil
Satin Tip Synthetic brush
Dove Sensitive cream
Focus Dynamic razor
Feather blade
Dove Sensitive balm

My second shave with this razor was not much different than the first. By far the mildest razor I've used. I saw no difference between the Rapira and Feather blades, which is surprising. After 3 passes and a few touch ups I was somewhere between DFS and BBS. Unlike the OneBlade Genesis, I must apply pressure for the razor to really work. One bright spot for me is no weepers or irritation, even after several passes on the trouble spot on my neck. I do like the razor, but don't see myself using all that often. I like It and enjoy it for what it is. As far as a pivot razor goes, I much prefer my OneBlade Genesis razors.

I still think this is a great razor if you are someone that can't normally shave 2 days in a row- you likely can with this razor. It may also be a good alternative to the OneBlade Core for those that prefer metal. It would also make a decent travel razor.

Soap: Lea Classic
Razor: Ever Ready Featherweight
Blade: Gem Blue Star

Using the Blue Star blade, lead to my best shave ever with the Featherweight.
It really brought the best out of this little razor.
Normally I find it a bit inefficient, requiring a few touch ups. Not today, today was a two pass marvel, smiles all over my face.

Extro Arancia Italiana
Boots Tea Tree WH & Extro Arancia Italiana aftershave/EDT

I did plan on using the Vie Long 04503 today but the post came early with my order from Gifts and Care so I called an audible and used my new horse hair brush, a Vie Long 13061b. What a beauty, smells atrocious but fantastic to use and made for a very nice lather. The smell was masked by the lather, I will prefer this horse due to the bigger knot, handle is stocky and feels great. Soap performed superbly, scent is growing on me very much. All in all a great shave today. Roll on tomorrow.

A light duty morning shave to get back on schedule, with two new razors. The Gibbs Adjustable on 5, armed with a third use Permasharp made easy work on the 20 hrs of beard. The bruised and battered Rotbart with fresh BIC CP was impressive on the head shave, having no difficulty getting to BBS despite feeling quite mild.

Thursday 10th August

Bulldog face wash
Hot towel
Truefitt & Hill Ultimate Comfort pre-shave oil
TGN 2-band fan knot/Vulfix 404 handle by Bill Jack
Gillette NEW (long comb model)
Feather blade (2nd shave I think)
D.R. Harris Almond soap (face-lathered)
D.R Harris Arlington AS

3 passes plus touch-ups.

This was my first shave using the pre-shave oil (I've always been a Proraso pre-shave cream user), though I have used Village Barber shaving oil in the past for a lather-free shave. I used four drops (they're very small) and I think it was enough - does anyone have any experience with it regarding the correct amount to use? I rushed my prep slightly, so I felt the blade more than I'd have liked, but I certainly experienced reasonable glide, and the oil left my skin feeling moisturised despite not using any balm. A DFS was the result, albeit with one very slight weeper and a couple of red marks on my lower cheek where I went a touch too aggressive, but the post-shave feel is very pleasant.

Evening shave.

Lucky Tiger Face Scrub, BBA Shave Oil.
Soponificio Varesino Manna di Sicilia Soap (sample).
Maseto 30mm 2 band finest.
Little Wren Pottery.
Rockwell 6C (plate 5).
Astra SP (1).
Fine L'Orange Noir Aftershave.
BBA Post Shave Balm.

Two and a half days growth to contend with so I plumped for plate 5 on the 6C. I could feel the blade just a touch more than on my usual plates 3 or 4, naturally I suppose, but the shave was still remarkably smooth. This was no doubt aided by the magnificence of the lather produced by the Soponificio Varesino (thank you @Fox for the very generous sample). A rich, creamy, cushioning bowl of comfort. Right up there with Tabac in my personal Hall of Fame. So I'm as smooth as something very smooth, and smelling quite nice too. Have a good evening gents.
