Pass around Rocnel SE-G

Day three, today I rounded the corners of my Pal super carbon blade with an old hone stone because I was picking up sometimes deep sometimes not so deep scratches from the outer edges of the blade when shaving.
I was begining to look like an African tribesman with the scarification on my face two of which look like they are going to be permanent .

I whipped up a great lather from the great Vaobra in my Little Wren bowl and painted the lather on with the ever so soft Razorock silvertip Synthetic .

The shave today changed , no more scratching from the blade edges so no more blood loss, riding the cap I had a smooth and relitively comfortable shave apart from under my nose where it is impossible to maintain the correct angle for comfort and opened up some wounds from yesterday.

I think this razor is flawed in its design for the edges of the blade to dig in under normal shaving and my doctoring of my blade has shown this and stopped this from happening.

A good application of BBA post shave balm was soothing and eased the discomfort on the area above my top lip.

I finished with a dab or three of Tom Ford ~ London (copy perfume oil from Mr Perfume) on my upper chest and pulse points.

I may give my face a chance to recover tomorrow and use my Blackland Sabre, a much better razor in my opinion and one that has never drawn blood or left scars on my face.

@Ferry-shave , your tag as requested .

Whishing you all a good day........:)

Good Morning Paul

Is is the blade itself just above the half moon cutouts or the corners of the spine that scratch your face? Either way that's just not right and to my mind probably shows a lack of user testing prior to production. I suspect they felt under pressure to release early as other companies either were releasing or about to release their razors.

Regards
Dick.

Good morning Dick,
It's the corners of the cutting edge of the blade that were digging in but after my work on the blade this has stopped so as I said, in my opinion this is a design flaw and yes I suspect you are quite correct in saying that it shows a lack of user testing prior to production, the blade edges needed imo to be covered.

Greetings

Prep: Shower
Razor: 1912 GEM Junior Baton Handle
Blade: ER Corrux NOS (7)
Brush: Vulfix / L'Occitane
Soap: Wilkinson Sword Stick
Aftershave: Astral Cream (soft)
EDP: Miller Harris La Fumee Maroc

Following five laps on Chromox, five on Feox and ten on plain leather, this blade is back to full sharpness, and at present shows no excessive wear and looks like it has the potential to go on for quite some time.

I see, in that case it is very wrong and a design issue, if the comb is curving away downwards leaving the blade corners "high and dry" this will happen, I have a couple of 'wedge' blade razors with no blade stops and they have no issue because the corners lay flat on the comb.

Dick.

finally retired the polsilver - over 20 shaves easily. moved onto the Gem stainless with one of my SE razors i cant remember the name of right now - looks like the robot soldiers from the star wars prequels (roger, roger), kent soap, caldey island a/s aloe vera gel. today i used my frank shaving 28mm pur tech - i always find it too bouncy and it's tiring to use so possibly a future PIF. FANTASTIC shave though - skin feels amazing. anyone struggling with MWF/Kent - just smear it all over your chops and bob's your uncle
Glad you're enjoying the Caldey Island! :D

@Blademonkey Sorry to hear about the scratching. I hope these dissapear and there is no lasting damage.

I have boxed up the Rocnel and I am back shaving with the ATT SE1.

I have a friend who is holidaying in the states, who is going to pick up s Sabre for me. Can't wait to try it out.

I will some day go back to the Rocnel, probably doctoring the blade as you describe.

I can't understand why Rocnel released this razor, with such a dangerous design flaw. One of the reasons fir de/se shaving is better shaves with less skin damage.

I got some vitamin e oil and Shea butter cream from the body shop, which worked well on my Rocnel scratches.

All the best,

Chris

Thursday...

OSP Neroli
Brush - Semogue 2000
Face lather
Razor - Ever Ready 1912 Streamline
Blade - Gem Personna #2
Post - Thayer's Rose Petal and Aloe Vera
Smell - Eau Sauvage EdT

Great shave today. The weight of the razor makes shaving with this beauty so effortless and the OSP, as always, delivers the goods.

Mrs Scotshave and I are taking in the Festival ambience this afternoon/evening; so reasonably presentable.

It is great news Dick that with a little prepping the blade is still gong strong and as you say has the potential to go on for some time, I use the same prep after each shave with these blades and getting equaly good results, I am happy to have a few of these blades which with a little care should last me some time to come.

I'm a little surprised that the blades are doing so well, I don't seem to be able to keep an Autostrop blade going this well, probably because you are realistically confined to the automatic stropper (unless you fit a temporary spine) and I am not very fond of any autostropping device that I have tried yet; including the Magnus Stropper included with some of the Heljestrand sets, it's just not possible to properly control the pressure and it's certainly not possible to use a super light touch!

I have found like you that I can't seem to keep the blades going on plain leather alone, you do need to use some sort of abrasive paste even if not for every shave.

Regards
Dick.
