Finally back into the grove again and time to post a SOTD - I hope you all have a wonderful start into the new week

A. - I always meant to ask - a question equally applicable to @TomG - is it against the law in some Australian States to have anything less than gorgeous shaving brushes? Good to see your sotd pictures again - the best backgrounds in the business - ha ha - I.

Oh - good luck with the heat.

My themed shave for this evening was 'Art and Artisans'

View attachment 40935

Palette knife - Colonial General
Palette - Kai Captain
Paint brush - Razorock Plissoft synthetic
Paint - Michell's wool fat soap
Retarding gel - Men's grooming Thistle and black pepper facial soap
Varnish - L'Occitane Cade aftershave
Thinning agent - Arran aromatics Sea Salt and Rockrose EDT
Canvas - My face

This evening's theme was inspired by both artisan products and a bit of art on the side.

After a nice 'round the day off' shower a refreshing face wash was a welcome addition with today's purchase of a bar of Men's Grooming Thistle and Black Pepper facial soap. This was a cheap buy from the 'get rid of this' shelf in a local garden centre. Gardens, shaving, shaving, gardens? I guess times are hard and they have to digress a bit from the usual shrubs and tubs of pretty flowers

A second time out with a shaving soap for me and in this particular instance the soap was Mitchell's wool fat which I chose because it seemed to get favourable ratings. Probably not the best way to purchase a product but in this day and age we do have to trust the web to some extent. I have to be honest after the Kent soap a couple of shaves back I really can't see much difference between the two. Both lather exceptionally well, the scents are similar in that they on the whole pretty non-existent, but they do share one similar theme in that I find both to be excellent soaps in providing a wonderful shave. Top trumps, and I am not referring to Donald here.

The Razorock Plissoft was a perfect accompaniment to the Mitchell's and lathered up quickly and with a ruthless efficiency. Job done and a jolly good job at that.

That old dog the general was up to his usual tricks and performing brilliantly at shifting facial hair. What an act and a very hard act to beat. My dog of the moment and I don't own a dog. I have two cats, but cat of the moment doesn't really ring well.

To cap off one perfect shave; my favourite shaving tipple of Cade aftershave. I am sure it would be equally as enjoyable with a cube of ice, but for the moment I'll stick with rubbing it in to my face.

The scent to hand was the Arran Aromatics Sea Salt and Rockrose and very much to hand as it lives by the sink for anyone and everyone to use when they visit the shower room. Being unisex does help and caters for all visitors and shower room users. Other than being for either sex I must say it has a most wonderfully light fragrance about it which really does add a touch of freshness without making a huge statement. Subtle. It has even been known to be used for removing certain odours at times. A bit extravagant to say the least.

Whether for personal use or as an air freshener I give this rarely mentioned scent the highest accolade for being a wonderful does it all EDT. I love it.

Altogether another great shave was had and babies, smooth and bottoms springs to mind. I walk away refreshed, freshened and in shaven heaven

Artisan section out of the way and over to the art. This was the latest piece to roll off the easel today and something I have been working on over the past couple of leaves away from work. Okay I lied a bit as it hasn't quite rolled off the easel yet while the UV varnish dries overnight before it is presented to the house. Once a bit of wall has been found and it can be hung in place I can then forget and ignore it like I do all my other work. It is a me thing. Saying that I am happy with the way it finalised, but I am sure I will find time to hate it at some point.

I think the subject matter is pretty much explanatory.

And for this evening my chosen theme was 'The return of the lethal weapon'

20190128_185221.jpg

Lethal weapon 1 - Dovo 5/8
Lethal weapon 2 - Ikon B1 SB
Lethal brush - Razorock 24mm Plissoft
Lethal cream - Gentlemen's Tonic
Lethal pre wash - Men's grooming Thistle and black pepper soap
Lethal finish - Nivea Intensive moisturiser

This evening was all about using my new lethal toy the Dovo 5/8 straight and to avoid a visit to the local A&E. I am determined to win over this straight shaving malarkey and not give in to the fear factor. After the first time out it became an item where a simple glance could have me weeping tears of fright. But I'm a big git and bigger than this razor.

This was the third time out with the Dovo and once again it was more a hybrid shave with the Ikon B1 SB to pick up on those areas I can't quite get my head around yet. Or not brave enough to take on.

I'll not waffle on too much about the side show items except to say (And I have said this before) the Gentlemen's Tonic is an absolute whiz of a cream. With another 'try this again ye of little faith' and being short of faith in my handling of the Dovo I wanted a cream I know offers great glide value and a general all round performance. The GT ticks more boxes than there are boxes available.

As suggested I made 20 full sweeps on the strop before even attempting to go steel meets skin. Another box ticked.

My main problem with this straight game is actually holding the thing without losing sight in the mirror. Following videos is not quite an end solution and I decided I am going to have to take more care and find out what works for me. It took some dexterity and a whole host of new head positions to figure this one out but bugger me I actually managed to complete nearly all of my face, minus any nicks, scratches or anything else which involved giving blood for the sake of a shave.

The neck I found easy enough although one has to be careful with which way ones hair does actually grow. These straights will soon let you know if you think you know your face when truly you don't.

The kindly donated Chinese straight from @Nisse certainly did help with a few blunt practice runs. Thank you.

The only areas I couldn't get the gist of were under the nose to the top lip and under the bottom lip to just around the chin. Too much of an uncomfortable feeling. To get this far was an accomplishment and I felt really proud I'd managed to have a nearly full straight shave. I am not going to say it was perfect and as smooth as my own hairy bottom is about as much as I could describe it. But more important things are falling in to place and I never expected miracles. Things can only get better as the song goes.

To add the final touch a few minutes with the Ikon soon made for one damn good shave. After the Dovo the Ikon suddenly feels blunt and mild. I must say these straights certainly are musical with the feedback.

End result was very pleasing and I walked away feeling chuffed with myself. Smooth and not a shed of blood. A great shave and a great feel good evening.

@Dansco you will enjoy reading this. I know you will.

No paintings to sign off on this evening but you can have some of this

Have a great evening chaps and may you grin as wide as I can.

Today was reserved for the 60 Fatboy which I haven't reached for in awhile. Loaded up a no name brand blade that was purchased in Portugal while the family was on vacation. While not the sharpest of blades they were smooth. 3 passes and a DFS/BBS finish. Now I could have done another buffing pass but I was happy with the result. Happy Monday!

Rating: 4 / 5

Thank you very much for your kind words - my wife will be very pleased to hear your regard her art work as such good backgrounds :)

There is certainly a law in both @TomG and my den against ugly brushes...unfortunately we haven't convinced all of Australia yet to adapt it :p

Greetings,

Another early morning shave..

Last year in july i entered a'pif' to win some near full P&B soaps kindly put up for grabs by the very generous @shevsky , to my amazement and luck my name was randomly picked as the winner!..Anyway to my dreadful forgetfulness it's only now that i've finally got round to trying out the Sanskrit soap. The verdict?....Like all of the other P&B soaps i've tried it's lathering performance was amazingly good, out the four soaps that i won this one had been used the most, I understand why, it's fragrance is fantastic, which matches it's lathering performance, slickness & protection leaving a wonderful post shave feeling to my face...A superb soap, which if i didn't already have such a quantity of soaps & creams to use up, i would seriously consider placing a order for some, A very possible birthday present to myself, but that won't be until june..so for now,i'm sticking to my 'No More Buying Shaving Related Items', at least until my birthday, which isn't until june.

The weishi adj is becoming a regular favourite of mine,it's efficient, but with great smoothness ,i've found my shaving angle with it,and feel totally confident when shaving with this chinese made princess, it also paired together superbly with the rapira platinum lux blade.

Another very comfortable 3 pass + pick ups near bbs shave with no errors to report.

Finishing the shave of with a generous dollop of Bulldog ~ Original Aftershave Balm.

My face is feeling silky smooth & smelling devine.
