Much thanks to @Barry Giddens for letting me have a spin with his beloved Pils.
First thoughts;
The bulky head will be hard to shave the troublesome areas.
The smooth handle won't be a problem after all I like the brass general.
Wrong on both counts.
It's incredibly easy to get to awkward areas, still haven't worked out why.
Because it's so head heavy and the handle so thin, I need some help with grip, a few grooves in strategic places would be enough.
For a first shave it was pretty good apart from occasionally loosing the angle on the neck.
I can see why it has so many fans. It shaves very efficiently and smoothly when you get it right, and it holds the blade so rigidly flat it feels a bit like an SE.
I'm looking forward to learning this razor.
Happy Shaving one and all.
Very interesting, Kevin. Your initial thoughts on the Pils align very closely with mine.

ATT SE-G
Gem S/S ( 3 )
Floid Vigoroso A/S lotion

My third outing with my modified ATT SE-G , whist not overly aggressive it is now quite efficient but very forgiving. The Shave was smooth and comfortable, with an excellent finish on the Face but not quite there around the neck.I really like the heft of the Razor and it's manouvreability, and look forward to including it in rotations.

Pre/prep: Shower, scrub, hot flannel.
Soap: L'Occitane Cade, bowl lathered.
Brush: MÜHLE Vivo black fibre
SR: Merkur 23c
Blade: Feather (3)
Post: Nivea sensitive balm
Scent: Acqua Di Parma Oud EDP (sample)

The Cade soap doesn't have a big aroma, but it does make a luscious lather, really enjoyed whipping it up! The Feather seems to have smoothed out nicely so no doubt it's on its way out. I will try palm stropping the next one to see if that gives me a pleasant shave from the get go. Thanks to @Palmolive fox for that tip.

Love the Acqua Di Parma Oud, I have been scrounging samples like crazy, but I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get a bottle eventually.

Have a lovely Sunday everyone.

Moss Anniversary Slate scuttle
Rooney 2/1 Ivory Finest (22/56)
Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet shaving soap (tallow)
Wolfman WR1-OC Satin/Darwin
Wilkinson Light Brigade (20)
St. James Perfumery London Collection aftershave (vintage)

A sort of royal shave this morning, with the courtly soap and aftershave, a 'formal' razor, and a brush with extremely soft, pampering tips.

Ok, sorry if it's going over old ground, but what's with the bones?

Love that slate scuttle btw.

You're welcome Kevin. It's certainly worth ‘learning' the razor. The soaps something else isn't it?
It's an intriguing razor Barry, my face and jawline were super smooth very easily and should have all the neck sorted in the next couple of shaves.
Superb soap and the scent means I can save the Rosa Bourbon for Spring/Summer

Great minds think alike, or fools seldom differ, take your pick Tom.

And for today my shaving theme was 'A Mickey Mouse of a shave'

20181021_174524.jpg

Mickey Mouse - Colonial General
Donald Duck - Kai Captain
Pluto - Muhle synthetic in ivory plastic
Daisy Duck - OSP Barber Shop scent
Minnie Mouse - Cerruti 1881

Leather wash bag by Rowallan. Actually for what was a cheap 'it will do' purchase several years back it has served me well and shows no signs of wear and tear. It does the job and it does it well.

Still out at work on the boats here and I remain surrounded by the same ram shackle bunch of salty arsed seamen. However not to play the same salty posterior game as the crew I do have standards and the luxury of a shave remains near the top of the list. Just slightly below having tea out of a mug which has actually been washed as against to one which carries the last 10 years worth of contents stained in to the sides.

Damn them and their lower eschelon ways. Nothing a good keel hauling cannot resolve or a bloody good flogging with the ship's cat. The poor creature.

So what constitutes a damn fine shave on a lowly little tug boat attached to the back of a tanker?

20181021_183453.jpg

Firstly a fine Captain to lead the way in the form of a Colonial General SE razor and a second assistant in Captain Kai to give the edge to shaving operations. Calm seas do help and this evening the forecast for sea area Humber was 'shaving force 2'. Perfect.

To whip up an espuma on the sea of OSP the Muhle synthetic did a very job. It is after all a brush and it does its brushing duties with aplomb. An ocean of quality lather. I am not so sure where I can fit in the barber shop scent with all this but it is a wonderful aroma.

Thinking back to when I first came to sea there was always someone on board who lay claim to being the ship's barber. Usually either one of the stewards or for some odd reason the carpenter. Given their usual tools were saws and chisels it was a bit of a daunting experience. It was a good thing that a trans Pacific transit could take 5-6 weeks and plenty of time to rescue something from the butchering. Better that than arriving looking like the ship's figure head.

I digress as per usual

A really nice shave this evening and since a dab of diesel behind the ears was all a bit old hat I decided a good dousing of 1881 was more in night orders. I am exceptionally pleased with the Cerruti and it has a real 'me' appeal about it. I must thank (and at the same time say no thanks as it cost me unexpectedly) to @Nisse for ever enquiring about it on his thread about being in need of an old man's scent and giving away he is an old geezer while at it. Curiosity killed the cat with nine tails and the bank balance at the same time. A cereal killer together with my Mexican dish for mixing shaving cream.

As smooth as an old sea dog landing ashore after five weeks at sea and a handful of Viagra.

Have a great week ahead folks and just remember they say 'worse things happen at sea'. And they do. Haircuts being one.

Prep: Face Wash with Pears soap
Cream: TOBS Jermyn Street
Brush: TSC Pure Badger
Razor: EJ DE89 Kelvin
Blade: Gillette 7 O' Clock green (2)
Post: Cold water rinse / Boots Tea Tree and Witch Hazel
AS: Duru Limon
ASB: Barts Balm Lime

Lovely Sunday evening shave while the girls were watching ‘Strickly.' In fairness, anything beats that but the shave was good anyway.
I've noted respected posters using Pears soap so I thought I'd give it a go. Takes me back to bath night when I was nowt but a young lad. Left the face nicely prepped so I gave the pre-shave a miss and it worked well.
The Jermyn Street cream is probably my favourite scent of the creams I've tried so far. I only got a small tube but might have to throw caution to the wind and buy a tub after pay day.
Three passes and close to BBS with just one small weeper under the nose. Very pleased.
Have a great week.

Cheers
