A great shave after a pretty fine day, plenty of sunshine here near Edinburgh today. I managed to service the lawnmower and fit a new blade and then managed to get the moss killer and lawn feed spread on my lawns. Now enjoying a well earned beer.

R41.jpg

Pre-shave - Warm shower, Musgo Real Classic Glycerin Oil Soap, followed by warm water splash.
Cream - Murdock Avalon.
Brush - Muhle Purist Silvertip Fibre.
Bowl - Little Wren Pottery.
Razor - Muhle R41.
Blade - Muhle DE (Day 1).
Post shave - Cold water splash; followed by OSP Neroli Splash and Clinique Post Shave Balm.
Post shave + - Geo F Trumper Extract of Limes Aftershave, applied to the neck.

The R41 is a DE that I had used very rarely; my first shave with a R41 circa 3 years ago, was a disaster: nicks and weepers galore.

I bought this R41 as a holiday treat from the Muhle shop in Berlin, and the 3 shaves I had with it when away all went well. With that in mind I decided to give the R41 a run out this morning.

I made sure that I had plenty of time, so not to rush, and that I had prepped well. The first pass WTG went well, I really felt the blade, which in part was slightly tuggy. The second pass on the face (XTG) was smooth as f@ck, and the ATG pass on my neck was equally good. I was watching the razor angle and made sure to use as little pressure as possible.

No nicks, weepers, redness - a BBS finish. The OSP Neroli splash gave a very plesant tingle - no burn at all. Some 8 hours later, my skin still feels smooth and comfortable.

After the shave, the thought entered my mind was that the R41 was similar to the Rocnel GEM: very efficient and smooth; giving an excellent shave if you watch what you are doing.

Wishing everyone a good weekend,

Chris

Razor - Rockwell 6C (2)
blade - Polsilver SI (5)
brush - Chubby 1 best
soap - P&B Citra Royale
post - witch hazel
a/s - OSP Lemon and Cedarwood
balm - Alvarez Gomez moisturiser
scent - Acqua di Parma Colonia Leather.

Result - lovelier than a lovely thing with a PHD in loveliness.

I'm not sure that I have ever used any de blade this many times - I normally toss them after four uses maximum - they are cheap and I have loads of them - there is only one way to find out if a blade is past its best and that is generally an unpleasant experience. The Polsilver SI is still working at optimum five shaves in - not a hint of it degrading. I'll maybe not push it much further though. In a citrus mood again today - I've had my issues with P&B soaps in the past - but when they work - they work very well indeed. The scent of the Citra Royale is balanced and opens out nicely for me. Top end slickness, glide and face feel. It has taken me a while to suss the right amount of moisture needed though - they can be a bit fussy in this respect. I have enjoyed re-visiting the OSP tonics no end - the scent and performance of the Lemon and Cedarwood are wonderful. The initial hit of the lemon reminds me of a freshly cut fruit - no hint of sweetness or of it being cloying. It drops fairly quickly onto the bed of Cedarwood - nice. Quite persistent for an aftershave. Talking of scent - despite the fact that I picked up the ADP Leather a few weeks ago on bst - this is actually the first time I have used it properly. Mainly due to my other half deciding it was her new favourite thing - on her, not me. She suits scents that might ordinarily be considered masculine. I was subjected to a thinly veiled olfactory propaganda campaign - to the effect that it didn't work on me. Probably her most colourful description was - 'you smell like the hallway of an incontinent old lady with too many cats.' Bollocks - not falling for that - I love the Colonia Leather - it smells 'expensive' - which it is. Longevity and sillage approaching Creed levels. It cost me three travel atomisers worth of the Colonia to get it back. So - job done - there is no point in further rhapsodising about the Rockwell - if you have one you'll know - if you don't - you should. All in all a great shave - enjoy yours too - cheers - I.

RazoRock Plissoft 24mm
Speick Active
Schick Type F
Schick S/S [ 6- Japan ]
Pitralon Original A/S Lotion

Woke up late for me and as off for the day needed a nice safe Shave. Made the right choice, the Type F really is IMHO the Rolls Royce family and IMHO puts the later Schicks in the shade. Really good shave without fuss enabled me to get back on Track, and get on the road to pick up my passengers.
Weather looks good for our first Outdoor T & F meeting in N.London, just hope the Traffic OK.

First birth year razor shave :-

After a bit of searching over the last couple of years, finally picked up a birth year razor (with the right quarter too) in very good condition. Also the first time I've used a Gillette Slim Twist. Returned to the Voskhod balde, which never fails.

A nice clean shave. Love the handle, and paired with the Voskhod no issues whatsoever. Having recently bought a Tech too - find myself enjoying the vinatge, milder razors. Having been wet shaving for 5 years, may be it's that the technique has come together. That or it's an age thing

Happy weekend and shaving gents.

Razor - Gillette Slim Twist
Blade - Voskhod (1)
Cream - GFCC - Original
Brush - Omega 10066
Balm - Arko Fresh
EDT - Hugo Boss Tonic.

Congrats on the birth razor - looks a beauty!

Prep ~ Shower, MWF bath soap
Razor ~ Igor SE (on loan)
Blade ~ Pal Super, Carbon Steel
Soap ~ MWF ( The Fat )
Brush ~ Semouge 2000
Post ~ Thayers / Taylor's of Old Bond St AS AF
Scent ~ Creed ~ Royal Oud (decant)

Another super shave with Igor, I did not notice the light weight today or the handle length so it was just a matter of getting used to it.
BBS with no problems, finnished off with a good spray of Creed Royal Oud, a perfect way to end a perfect shave.

Wishing you all a relaxing Sunday. P.
