Muhle silvertip fibre 23 mm brush
Burberry Emulsion

Monday AM 2018-10-15

Moss Anniversary Slate scuttle
Rooney 1/1 Ivory Finest (22/45)
Eufros Tobacco shaving soap (tallow)
Weber PH/Stork Consul Titanium
Wilkinson Light Brigade (14)
Eufros Tobacco aftershave balm

The soap and balm smell good, although the fragrance is somewhat sweeter and more 'sappy' than I had expected. The lather was quite good but not great. And I hadn't read the balm label and was surprised at its light menthol touch.

Pre shave: Warm shower and Real Shaving Co. face scrub + Noxzema Shave Cream
Razor: Windrose OC Slant
Blade: NOS Gillette Stainless - Czech Republic (#3)
Soap: Nivea Sensitive cream
Brush: Plisson pure badger
Bowl: Korium
Post shave: Alum block, cold water splash and Humphreys Cucumber witch hazel
AS: Lab Series balm

Prep: L'Oreal Hydra Sensitive Birch Sap face wash.
Pre: Proraso Sensitive Pre-shave
Brush: Unbranded bristle
Croap: Proraso Sensitive
Razor: Gillette Tech - late model (99p ebay win)
Blade: Gillette Wilkinson Sword (2)
Post: Cold water rinse. Boots tea tree and witch hazel
AS: Superdrug Forest Fresh
ASB: Boots Freshwood

Bit of a dodgy shave this evening. Not a huge amount of growth so I went with as mild a shave as I could. First use of this Tech which I'm guessing is a 1972 plus version. Very mild but a completely different feel to my mid 60s Tech. Don't know if it's the razor, the blade (which was great in the DE89 yesterday) or, most likely, the user but got loads of irritation and more nicks/weepers than I've ever had. The result is still a decent close shave but not much fun tonight.

There's always tomorrow :)

Have a great evening.

Cheers

Steve

Pre-shave:- Hot shower, Nivea Sensitive Face Wash then Proraso Red Pre Shave cream
Brush:- The Executive Shaving Company Medium Jock Synthetic
Soap/Cream:- Geo Trumpers Spanish Leather cream
Razor/Blade:- Gillette Fatboy/Gillette 7 O'clock green (3)
Post-shave:- Thayers Witch Hazel Cucumber followed by Boots Bay Rum

b7d2c014e6f9880127ae31e78060cdf1.jpg

I was in Boots today just browsing when I saw a Bay Rum bottle beside the aftershave. I had a sniff and thought I'd give it a go....not realising that it's actually a hair tonic (no idea why it was beside the aftershaves?!?). However, upon realising my mistake I decided I still quite liked the scent. Plus, a quick search in here revealed that it can be used as an aftershave as it shares the same ingredients.

Anyhow....onto this evenings shave.

I had 2 days growth and continued with my Fatboy/7 O'clock Green combination. No change in performance with a really smooth blade. The blade seems to be getting better, now on its 3rd outing. I used setting 5 on the Fatboy for my WTG and XTG passes and it performed flawlessly.

I dialled it down to 2 for my ATG pass and pickups. Again, effortless. Only one wee weeper on my chin which I think was a small spot. This needed no attention.

As to the cream - the Geo Trumpers Spanish Leather cream put in a good performance. A lovely lather was easily made in the bowl, with it being quite thirsty. Painting it on was really enjoyable with plenty left in the bowl and in the brush. The blade glide was good and the slickness still present during each rinse was nice. The scent is growing on me and it combined well with the Bay Rum at the end of the shave.

Finishing off with Thayers and a good splash of the Boots Bay Rum. Excellent! Really pleased with tonight's shave and my face feels great. Add to that the scent of the Bay Rum.....love it!

Have a great night folks! [emoji1303]

Sotd - Saturday the 13th and today - the 15th of October -

Razor - Megress - (1.5)
blade - Aussie Spoiler - (9 and 10)
brush - Simpsons Chubby One best
soap - Salters Lavender tallow hard soap
post - witch hazel
a/s - Quorum
balm - Barts Lavender lotion
scent - Quorum edt.

Result - great - so good I did it twice.

A first for me I think - identical set up - for two shaves. Everything just worked so goddam well together. A big thank you to @Paul L - I think it was you? - sorry if it was someone else - for the heads up on the Quorum gift set of the aftershave and edt - for a very reasonable £14.99 in Savers. It is funny they didn't have any in ECI earlier this year in Spain - where the bloody stuff is made - but my other half found the last remaining one for me in the benighted town of Wishaw in North Lanarkshire. Nothing leaves there - not even darkness. Go figure. I love them - well seventies - scent and packaging - I can almost hear the Sweeney theme tune as I apply them - the desire to buy a sheepskin jacket - grow a comb-over - okay - it isn't Creed or Dior - but at the price it doesn't have to be - a nice clean - fresh linen - antiseptic - English - sort of lavender. Fair enough - the sillage is limited - and it is pretty ephemeral - but who cares - it is nice to wear for me. The Salters tallow lavender is well up there in the best value - and performing soaps - in my opinion. Give it a go. The Spoilers march on. Great shaves - enjoy yours one and all - have a good week gentlemen. Yours - I.

Oh - 'The Case of the Poisoned Priest' - part the first -

Baker Street - 1891 -

Watson is shaving - a moment of quiet contemplation - any man might reasonably expect - but - even at his ablutions - he cannot ignore - Wagner's 'Gotterdammerung' - being played manically by his companion in the adjoining room - starting in the middle of the night - on an violin - of Cremona origin. He hadn't even reached the end of the first act yet. Trying for the stoutest of hearts.

‘Dear God - why did I move back into this madhouse?' - he asks his reflection.

Resuming to his lodging with the world's most eminent consulting detective - but six weeks after burying his beloved Mary - not being able to brook - the now empty - silent - domestic spaces they shared during a happy marriage.

Suddenly Holmes stops his demented scraping - blissful silence. The bathroom door crashes open behind the doctor -

‘Watson - Watson - ha ha - we have been summoned! The end of the dry season - I had almost lost faith in the malevolence of our fellow men - ha ha - dress quickly my friend - I shall do likewise - we must away - there is a telegram on the table - read it. Breakfast will be taken later.'

It read - ‘Holmes - come soonest - a foul deed on hallowed ground. Help required. Westminster Cathedral. Insp. Athelney Jones.'

No matter how grisly this might be - a welcome relief from Wagner.

A shaft of light illuminates the high altar - two uniformed officers and Jones are looking over the body between them.

‘Inspector - I received your missive - with great delight - what - who - do we have?'

A heavily corpulent man is slumped forward - face down - his richly ornamented robes indicate his calling instantly - the crossed keys of St Peter - detailed in gold brocade - his rank.

‘Until this morning - he was discovered about eight thirty - Holmes - the Papal legate - the apostolic nuncio to the Court of St James - otherwise - Monsignor Alejandro Arroyo y Lopez - as was.'

‘Felled my dear Athelney - in the posture of prayer - how fitting a way to meet your maker? Ha ha. May we turn him over - to see what more we can learn? Lend a hand.'

Four of them struggle to manoeuvre the dead weight - when achieved - the priest's face is picked out by the god beam - gasps from the constables. A terrible countenance - caught in a final silent scream. Lips and protruding tongue - stained purple. Almost his last act was to cry - tears of blood - now congealed on the cheeks. A sheet of fine hand-woven paper is pinned to the front of his cassock - G.P.L.E.A.I.S - printed in a delicate cursive script.

‘First impression doctor?'

‘Poisoned - I would say.'

‘I concur - Inspector - I shall report to you in 36 hours - good day gentlemen. Come Watson. We have seen all we can see here.'

A horse drawn cab - returning to Baker Street -

‘Holmes - who is the murderer? You are onto something - what was his motive?'

‘Not him Watson - her.'

To be continued.

Pre-shave:- Cold Water straight from the tap
Brush:- Zenith B27 Boar 28/55mm knot
Soap/Cream:- Declaration Grooming ~ TSM Fougère
Bowl/Scuttle:- Captain's Choice
Razor/Blade:- Karve CB 'F' / Vintage NOS England Wilkinson Sword #2
Post-shave:- Thayers Witch Hazel & Tea Tree Oil / Lucky Tiger Aftershave & Face Tonic / TSW Aftershave Balm
Fragrance:- Hugo Boss (Original)

The Karve F base plate was too edgy for me to shave, however, it's a little bit smoother than normal and this feels a bit over the top of the Muhle R41, it's not ideal for someone who has a thin, hollow or skinny face to used the Karve F base plate because you will get a lot more irritation during the shave if you're not careful with your angle. The F base plate might be better for someone who has an average or round typeface (chubby) can shave the F base plate without any further issue, because is easier to maneuver and you might get less irritation for those who like more blade feel or edgy feel while is still a bit smoother to shave than the Muhle R41. Is not a very aggressive shave like a Muhle R41, but, it does feel a bit edgier than an R41, I hope this makes sense to you because I can't really explain the correct way.

Also furthermore the F base feels a lot edgier than the Rockwell R6, so I gave myself a second try today using the Karve F base plate and I must say it's too edgy for me and my face, I've decided to step back a bit and used the E base plate during my next shave because the D base plate is my sweet spot on the Karve razor.

Pleased I could be of service, Iain
It's excellent stuff

How they can sell it at that price is beyond me?
I bought the AS from Home Bargains for around £8 a few months ago and I thought that was a good price

Image my dismay on Saturday morning when I discovered my KCB had been abducted, razornapped no less.
The ransom note demanded the princely sum, (not a King's ransom) of £19.61 if I ever wanted to see my beautiful razor.
The local Constabulary informed me that this sort of thing was far more common than the public could ever imagine and that my razor was only the tip of the iceberg. The very same gang are also targeting high-end watches, fountain pens and even items of jewellery.
Sadly as they're overworked and understaffed the Constable advised me to pay up if I wanted a swift solution to my quandary, at this point he scratched his head and said,
"This is a nationwide problem, the gang have offices, (making quotation marks in the air and shaking his head at this word), the length and breadth of the country."
So off I trotted to the nearest Royal Mail delivery office and duly paid the Queens ransom for the safe release of the KCB.
Happy Shaving one and all.
Very good, Kevin!
