Gillette gel/Gillette Super Blue/Voskhod(#1)

Awful shave. My first time with the Super Blue, and the 6g handle coupled with an 11g head means that as well as being silly-light, it's very unbalanced too. It also took ages for me to find the right angle. I suspect using such a smooth blade wasn't helping either.

I was very tempted to put the blade back into my Wilkinson Sword Classic for tomorrow's shave, but only a poor workman blames his tools. I shall persevere (and look into finding a new handle!).

Pre: Proraso Pre Barba Green
Razor: Rockwell 6C
Blade: Voskhod
Brush: Stirling 2-band Synthetic
Soap: Van Yulay Royal Oudh sample
Bowl: Fine Lather Bowl
Post: Thayer's Witch Hazel & Sapunoteka sandalwood & witch hazel lotion

Having tested 2 samples of Van Yulay I can conclude these soaps aren't something I would buy again. The lather is inferior to many artisans out there, even though it's fairly easy to lather it lacks texture.
I felt a slight stinging on the face after the first pass (on both soaps).

Greetings All,

Monday shave

Four day's growth and warm shave

Preparation – Showered then face washed with Clique Liquid facial soap (mild)
Soap: Molton Brown Shaving Soap
Razor: Rockwell 6C (4P)
Blade: Lord Super Chrome (1st)
Brush: RazoRock 400 (face lather)

Post Shave: Hot then cold water rinse, Alum, Nivea 2 Phase followed by Michael Kors EDT.

Lord Super Chrome Test
Day 1

My current rankings – with the Lord Rainbow taking the No 1 position:

1. Lord Rainbow
2. Shark SS
3. Lord Platinum
4. Gillette Nacet
5. Astra SP
6. Dorco Stainless (New Platinum)
7. Perma-Sharp Super

Today I started the Lord Super Chrome test. The packaging is exactly the same as the Lord Platinum but the actual blade does not feel as thick. Great first shave, no weeper or nicks but felt smoother than the Lord Platinum, but not as forgiving as the Lord Rainbow. Hacked through my whiskers easier than the Rainbow not as many multiple strokes needed. With very little Alum burn, so far, an encouraging start.

Looking forward to the rest of the week

I have selected some more blade for future tests – more lessor used blades (found some more Lords to try) and will ‘test' some blade I have already tried. However, if anyone has a suggestion, please let me know and I track down and add the blade to my list.

Cheers,

Brian

R41/feather(1)/cella/simpsons milk churn/myrsol agua balsamica/weleda balm
About six days since my last shave. Off work this week so a rare morning shave today! This razor/blade combination works so well. An effortless, irritation free shave. Topped off with the wonderful agua balsamica after shave and weleda balm.
A perfect shave. Have a good week all!

Mongoose B3
Schick Proline [ 7 ]
Tuff Red A/S Lotion

A repeat Shave with a Mongoose today, but today with one fitted with a Proline Blade, rather
than the Kai Pink of yesterday. Both blades on their 7th outing.

It was quite noticeable at the Start of the Shave that the Combo felt more efficient, the Shave
went smoothly without problems and the finished Shave quality was much better. It looks like
the Kai is not the blade for me in the Mongoose.

First use of this soap and it whips up very easy into a nice slick cushiony lather.
The smell is like a moisturiser/face cream although I find the post shave good but not great.
The 1912 on the other hand is great.
I think of it as the Velvet Underground & Nico of the SE world - Incredibly influential yet often overlooked:
Happy Shaving!

Greetings

Monday 12th February 2018
Prep: Shower
Razor: Muhle R41 (2013)
Blade: Gillette 7 O'Clock Sharp Edge
Brush: Muhle XL Synthetic
Soap: Tabac
Aftershave: Astral Cream (soft)
EDT: Lapidus Pour Homme

Whilst I am only a moderate fan of DE razors in general I am having a bit of a love affair with this 'New' model R41, it does seem to give me such a super close shave with the minimum of touching up being required.

I am so out of date with the more recent 'in vogue' DE blades that I am trying several different types and have ordered a mixed selection of what appears to be (from these pages) the latest favourites, although there does seem to be an element of fashion in razor blade usage and I do wonder if they are much (if any) better than the popular blades of five or six years ago.

Regards
Dick.
