Excellent, must be something in the water in West Yorkshire, I am starting my own batch tomorrow.

How's it coming along, pal?

Very well thanks. I have been told it doesn't need to sit a brew for a couple of months as I used essential oil and not real leaves. I am still going to leave it about 4 weeks though before straining and bottling. And yes I will put aside a small sample bottle for you.

Well, that is very kind of you. Thank you.

I'll sort you out some from my next brew - the first one was very spur of the moment and a complete leap into the unknown. I know where I'm going with this now, so you can have some of the next batch. In fact, I'll slop some of this out as a comparison for you.

Cheers, matey! :D

Mine is ready, as you are just down the road PM me your address and next time we are passing I will drop you in the sample, I think it's worked out well and the wife likes it better than the stuff I normally buy from the US.

Thread resurrection alert. Great thread it was too.

I'm in the middle of a spending splurge on Bay Rum from various suppliers and have probably mentioned it in other threads. This was an interesting thread and some of you are still around (either here or on another forum or both) but unfortunately not Sunbury Steve.

I've ordered 250ml Pashana American Bay Rum, 250ml Pashana Portugal without oil, 2 x 284ml bottles Bello (with and without Lime) from Germany (on Ebay) plus a large (355ml) bottle Pinaud Clubman Virgin Island Bay Rum from Shave Lounge

I'm toying with the idea of getting some Bay Rum (pimento racemosa) essential oil and maybe some lime esssential oil plus some of the ingredients mentioned above and doing a bit of mix and match... maybe some cheap dark rum and just using some stuff here in the house .. glycerin, cloves, orange peel, ginger, peppercorns, cinnamon stick etc.

We'll see what happens.

... then you should check out my latest brew: http://www.atgshaving.com/threads/bay-rum-back-to-basics.4385/

... with Tea! Yeah! Proper Pirate, that :D

It's just rum, witch hazel, glycerine and flavouring. Bay Rum oil is what I use. The rest, either oils or organics, steeped. Beyond that, it's just imagination and/or what you have to hand or fancy or think might be fun!

Have fun! That's the point of it!

As we speak you find me compiling a list and looking to see where to get some cheap dark rum...Asda or Lidl seem to have 70cl bottles for around a tenner but looking at the some of the recipes it could be that would last quite a while, maybe 350ml would do.

Ta for the link.

Blimey, you're clearly clairvoyant :)

I'm out today shopping for a few bits and pieces. Don't hold your breath though as it's obviously gonna be a good while before anything is ready.

Keeps me off the streets though and it's less risky than mugging old ladies for their pension book :)

Brief update.

Have taken my first steps down the home made Bay Rum road.

Have started with a screw top glass jar - capacity 300 millilitres (or half a pint or 10 fluid ounces.)

The Bay, the Vetivert and the Lime essential oils have yet to arrive but in the meantime the jar contains:

3 fl. ozs Dark Rum
3 fl. ozs Vodka
3 fl. ozs Witch Hazel
20 peppercorns
20 juniper berries
4 pieces of dried star anise
15 grams fresh peeled and sliced ginger
1 cinnamon stick, broke in half
1 tablespoon crushed coriander seeds
12 drops orange EO
12 drops lemon EO
12 drops clove EO
1 teabag ( Sainsbury's Earl Grey)
zest of one orange
zest of one lemon
1 whole vanilla pod, cut into 4

It's in a cool dark cupboard and I'll shake it every day for... I don't know how long for? Two weeks?, four weeks?

I was going to add glycerin later?

If anyone wants to comment or constructively criticize I shall be all ears.
