shaving oils

I've switched full time to nothing but oil. I've always struggled with sensitive skin and no anount of prep, hot facecloths, lathering and care could fix it.

Tried using just oil on its own and it was a revelation to me. No irritation, so smooth and close and zero tightness after the shave. Went back and forth between oil and more traditional methods for a couple of months and sadly came to the conclusion that soaps/creams, brushes and lather just don't work for me.

Wanted to give it a while before deciding but have taken the plunge and sold all my brushes and creams etc!

Only my faithful DE and travel
Razor remain.

Huh?
So you just shave with oil?
Yet another thing that had never crossed my mind.
(although given enough time on my hands I am sure I would have tried it at some point)
What oil do you use?
Or is that like saying 'what soap should I use?'
I see olive oil is mentioned here.
Any negatives to it?

I've tried a few, doesn't seem to
Matter much which one.

My first try was one from "the refinery" which is probably fairly premium. Was bought as a gift and I didn't use it for a year! Wish I had

I Also just bough a king of shaves aloe and tea tree one for £3.05 in boots. Good for 100 shaves and for whatever reason it clogs my razor less than the other. Both leave my face feeling joyous after.

Both are designed to be used on their own and not as pre shaves.

Negatives? Not really, the refinery one can leave the sink a little greasy and it tends to create oily clumps of hair on the razor. Nothing a rinse with hot water doesn't fix. I can't think of any other negatives!

They even negate the needs for an aftershave balm as skin is left feeling nourished and moisturised.

May not be for everyone but for me it's the solution I've been looking for! Love it

Excellent stuff.
I don't use anything other than soap.
I have a few now that I really like. (post shave as well)
I am sensitive it seems to some perfumes in soaps, make me itch and sting.
But this seems like a bit of fun and worth trying for sure.

It makes travelling easier as well eh?
Just take the razor and look out for a leaky ole banger at your destination.

It's great for travel because a tube of shave oil is about 20ml and absolutely tiny.

As I say, it may not be for everyone but I can't imagine anything better for my skin and routine.

Yep cleanup is the worst part. The King of shaves stuff seemed less messy somehow! The hair didn't clump and sink was easier to clean. Not sure why

I've been trying out Aromabar Lavender shaving oil, but just as a pre-shave. It's been good and leave a nice post shave skin feel and I've had less irritation. :) It does make a mess of the sink though. :(

Has anyone else had experience of the Aromabar shaving oils? I was wondering what other 'flavours' to try next. I like it as you get *lots* so it lasts a long long time and it does not have almond oil in it (which I strongly suspect my skin does not agree with as I've had some very bad reactions to products with almond oil in).

I sometimes use Village Barber to shave with, though most posters here just use it as a pre I think. As others said it's nice to not feel any post-shave dryness, but it also isn't as slippy to shave with as soap and I miss using a brush. So it won't replace trad soaps but will continue as a regular option. Oh and it rinses off the razor pretty well.
