S.O.T.D. Saturday 7th October to Friday 13th October 2017

Evening gents,
I really wasn't in the right frame of mind this evening for a shave even though I desperately needed to, anyway once I had a shower I felt a bit more into the idea....
So, after the thread about treet blades I decided to try my first go with a platinum stainless version. Just in case they weren't all they are cracked up to be I decided to put it into the infallible Rockwell, this teamed up with super slick sterling soap should give the best possible impression.
Awesomeness personified is all I can say, zero irritation, zero weepers maximum satisfaction.
I am so glad I made the effort, an incredible shave.
Rockwell razor
Razorock Italian barber synthetic brush
Treet platinum ss #1
Sterling's Glastonbury soap
Superdrug as balm
Penhaligons Halfeti edp
First use of this penhaligon, very nice too.

Razor: ATT R2 Atlas
Razor blade: Gillette Platinum
Brush: Simpsons Manchurian Captain
Bowl: Little Wren Pottery
Cream: The Traditional Shaving Company 'Leodis' (Free Tester)
Post: Fine American Blend

Matthew @traditionalshaving very kindly offered a limted number of free tubs of their new shaving cream to members of TSR to test and review. I was luck enough to get one, thank you Matthew.

I'm not going to go into great detail here but I can give you my first impressions.
It was free but as I'm sure you know by now, it won't influence my findings.

The scent is very nice and I would say its present during the shave but not overpowering.
Straight from the tub you get apple with a clean light citrus. Once lathered it even outs to a well balanced Cologne, along the lines of Truefitt and Hill's Grafton.
It was very easy to create a lather and didn't need much water at all.
The lather was stable throughout the shave with plenty of slickness.
The only thing I think it (slightly) lacked was protection but I'm being very picky.

In short I rated it and it's very similar in all aspects to T&H Grafton, which is high praise from me as I love Grafton.

Cheers
Rob

Blade: Personna Tungsten 74 (3)
Brush: 30 Day Crew w/ LS 2 Band
Soap: Cold River Soap Works Jeff's Soap
A/S: Folsom & Co. Shambala

The TSD 30 DC brush is working perfectly, along with getting the CRSW Jeff's Soap. Blackland Blackbird (Blue Bird :)) provides an excellent close comfortable after the Delta Echo Razor finishing. Folsom & Company Shambala is a great finish.

Pre Shave: Hot Shower + L'Oreal Pure Power Charcoal Face Wash and Proraso white
Razor: PAA DOC
Blade: Astor (#2) Unknown vintage
Brush: Vie Long Horse
Cream: Palmolive
Post: Alum Block, Cold water and Thayers Lavender Witch Hazel
AS: Nivea soothing balm.

Great shave today, the PAA DOC is not as good for me as a Fatip OC but it does work well, it also has an odd feel being so open comb. The super cheap Vie Long horse brush really is a great little brush, I may investigate other horse hair brush.

Prep: Shower
Razor: Valet Autostrop
Blade: Valet Autostrop
Brush: Vulfix / L'Occitane Plisson
Soap: DR Harris Windsor
Aftershave: Astral Cream (soft)
EDP: Guerlain L'Heure Bleue

Not a very comfortable shave, I forgot to strop the NOS blade before using it and when I remembered decided to try it straight from the packet unstropped as I was too idle to take it out of the razor... a mistake; these blades feel decent enough with the thumb test but are not up to a shaving standard without an initial stropping. To be quite fair that is exactly what the original Valet leaflets all stated; "Strop before first use". A lesson learnt.

Regards
Dick.
